I am looking to travel to California in January. Does anyone have any input on agencies, hospitals, neighborhoods and/or typical pay rates in San Francisco or San Diego? Any bad or good experiences to share? I dont know much of anything about the area, so any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Look for agencies which have the most contracts in CA. These will be the larger national chains or those regional to CA or the southwest. The more CA-based ones I'm signed with are Access Nurses, On Assignment, Emerald, and Agostini. There are others (I'm not particularly advocating these agencies over others; there's plenty of good ones, although I have had good experiences with them.) Note that not all agencies will have contracts with all hospitals or areas you may be interested in -- I learned this the hard way. So if you are interested in a particular area or hospital, you should actually call up the staffing office and ASK THEM which agencies they use. If you are interested in Kaiser, Nursefinders handles all their contract work, and Nursefinders farms out to certain agencies. You can actually try Nursefinders directly if you are interested in Kaiser -- they have facilities all over CA so this might be a good place for you to start if you want to get to CA. Also check out the Delphi Forums Travel Nurses and Therapists board; it is a very large and busy board for travelers where you can get any question answered.

RN Network seems to have great contracts everywhere and their benefits are great. And No I am not a recruiter for them just love them.
