i too am interested in international travel nursing - specifically in australia. im having trouble finding good resources for information. if anyone knows of some helpful websites please share. meanwhile ill look into "continental travel nursing." thanks waterlily252!

think long and hard about leaving your current position for travel nursing. the market is very slow right now. also few chicago hospitals use travel nurses. if you are intent on finding a position in chicago you may want to consider working with a local agency. i have heard good things about the HPI which ChicagoRNStacy recommended. though i was out of work for a couple months in between assignments, i was fortunate to find two positions through american mobile here in chicago. one at university of chicago (which is currently on a hiring freeze) and another at mercy on the southside of chicago. i dont think there are currently any chicago positions posted through american mobile but things change daily. with american mobile you can expect a housing subsidy of $1000-1400/month and pay rates around $30/hr for chicago. good luck!

American Mobile has strong connections in SF. Almost all the travelers I met there were from AMN or Cross Country. I worked at UCSF made $30/hr (blended) and received $2400/month (but waived AMN health insurance). Knew a lot of travelers who worked their travel assignment at UCSF and worked per diem at other hospitals. Insane cash flow... if you can handle being in a hospital that much. If you take subsidy, keep in mind that housing is not only expensive, but very difficult to find.

Hi guys! I'm applying for a position in Denver with AMN. I'm trying to figure out what kind of pay rates and housing subsidies to expect in the area. Don't want to get screwed over by AMN...again. :) Also, does anyone have recommendations in the way of apartment buildings or neighborhoods? Thanks!

On my first assignment I discovered I was receiving a substantially lower pay rate and housing stipend compared to a traveler at the same hospital, working for the same agency. I have had such a wonderful experience traveling, but was frustrating to learn I was manipulated by my recruiter. I'm in the process of applying for a new assignment and don't want to make the same mistakes. Does anyone have advice for a newer traveler about negotiating for high pay rates/housing stipends? How do I figure out what the average pay rates are for the areas in which I choose to work?

Take your car and the adventurous trip down the coast! There is so much to see on the way. The Oregon coast has some of the most beautiful beaches in the US. Stop at Mount Rainer or Mount St. Helens near Seattle. Check out a some of the local music in Portland. Plan on extending your trip so that you can explore the westcoast a little. I took a trip last winter from Chicago to Seattle and had a great time. It'd probably be best to recruit a friend or family member to take the trip with you. They can get a one way flight back to Vancover when you get to San Fran. If youre good at negotiating, I've heard that some agencies will actually provide travel reimbursment for a friend/family member that travels with you. Lisa suggestion was a good one too, if youre nervous about your car. If you have the funds, maybe trade it in before you leave Vancover? Especially if youre gonna be in San Fran 2 years, renting will be expensive. On a different note, where are you working in San Francisco? Do you know what neighborhood you will be living in? I'm going to be driving from Chicago to San Fran with a fellow traveler in January for a 3 month assignment, but havent found an assignment yet. I dont know much about the San Fran hospitals or neighborhoods.

I know a traveler that makes $32/hr for night shift in Seattle (Plus furnished housing)
