I have thought about Traveling for a long time. I have Med/surg, ED, ICU experience. Not sure how soon I will "go for it." But our youngest is graduating high school and my wife and I may look into this as a way to see different places... In the mean time would any of you travelers care to comment on how much you love traveling? Like, seeing different places? Exciting, exotic places....or whatever really turns you on to the whole traveling nurse life? Thanks in advance for anything shared.

I traveled for many years and then kept close to home when my son got into school. He graduates this June and I am looking at going back on the road. I loved every minute of it. It was like going on vacation. Yes you had to work but on your days off you get to see a lot of the country that you would never see. And since you on assignment for about 13 weeks you really have time to explore the area and not just the touristy stuff. And even though you sound like you have lots of experience the knowledge base that I have as a traveler is astounding. You get to work in different areas of the country and learn new ways to skin that cat as they say.

I agree with missypriss19! I traveled for 6 years, took a break and did permanent for a while, now I'm back traveling. My first go around I literally traveled the country, this time I'm staying closer to "home". I can't recommend it enough! It's such an awesome way to travel, see the country, meet new people, and gain all kinds of nursing experience. I will say, however, it isn't for everyone! You have to be confident in your skills, know your limitations, don't be afraid to speak up for yourself, and be very flexible. Usually hospitals that use travelers need warm bodies STAT so your working conditions might not be perfect. Whenever I had a contract that wasn't the best working environment, I just kept telling myself there was an end in sight and really lived up my time off!

Best of luck to you, and if I can help in any way let me know! :)
