Tips on being a Travel Nurse

I am starting to have a career as a travel nurse. I spoke with different agencies. Can someone tell me some tips on what to ask to agencies and what to avoid. Thanks!

I believe PanTravelers has a suggested list of questions to ask agencies as do some other popular travel sites: possibly Gypsy Nurse and Highway Hypodermics.

Just go with the flow when talking to agencies. You have plenty of questions now, and more will come up while talking and after you hang up. Jot them down and try them on the next phone call to an agency. You might be able to get a lot of your questions answered by doing some reading on traveler sites ahead of time, or at least assist you to ask intelligent questions. Reading traveler forums can also be helpful, especially if you read between the lines about the underlying issues and why they are being discussed.

Negotiate your salary, the agencies take too big of a cut!

Make sure your housing is in a safe area. If you are provided a vehicle, is the cost considered part of your hourly wage?

Make sure they pay your flight home after your assignment, not just to another assignment.

Feel free to PM me with any specific questions.
