How feasible is to work as a "traveler" but never work say out of a 30 mile radius of your home. An agency I am talking to is saying it is quite feasible but I just wanted to make sure they weren't just telling me what I want to hear....... thanks

i think that you just want to be an agency nurse, not a travel nurse. as an agency nurse you would just go to facilities in your area. i work for several agencies and usually dont have longer than a 30 min commute.

No, I don't want to do plain agency b/c I like the idea of traveling where you have a contract for say 13 weeks. I don't want to be going to all different facilities day after day and have to worry about being cancelled.

i think that it is possible to get contract work without having to travel. i see ads for them all the time in the newspaper.

Some hospitals don't care and some do. A lot of times you will run into a rule set by the hospital that you must live a certain distance away, usually 50-100 miles or more. Just make sure the company and hospital know up front you are local and there shouldn't be a problem. If there is, pack a bag, work three in a row and get a cheap hotel room. You will still be pocketing the housing allowance.

Yes you can get a travel contract in the same city you are in. At least that is what I have done many times. But this depends on where you live, and whether or not the hospitals in your area belong to association or not. Also there are hospitals that have restrictions on how close you can live to the hospital.

However there are hospitals that do month to month contracts, and they're guaranteed shifts. This is a good way to not have to worry about being canceled, and not be locked into a 13 week contract. Everything depends on where you live though.

Local agencies are also able to get you a 13-week contract at some hospitals

with guaranteed hours....................think that this is what you are looking for, also the salary will be higher, too.

Hope that this helps..................... :balloons:
