post partum travel nurses.

I'm looking to start traveling, but I want to travel as a post partum nurse. one of my recruiters tells me that there are only a few post partum travel opportunities. I do have 2 years of med/ surg experience but I don't want to travel as a med/surg nurse. My recruiter says I should consider it if I want to work consistently. Is it just this agency or have any of you found this post partum shortage to be true?

In my past travel experiences, most hospitals are looking for L&D nurses who can also do postpartum or mother/baby. Specifically, most hospitals do mother/baby and not just postpartum. I would say that postpartum travel positions can be rare. Most also will want you to have specific postpartum experience and most will require you to take a test about your knowledge and experience in postpartum.

Good luck.

As the previous poster said, there are not as many straight postpartum positions available. It may be more difficult to keep continuously employed with only PP. Most of the straight PP positions I have seen are in large hospitals in large cities. You may want to contact a couple of the larger agencies and ask what percentage of their OB positions are PP only. (I'm thinking with CCTC I see only maybe 5% of them)

My apologies I really meant Mother/Baby. I usually think of them as the same thing, but I see your point since the Mother/Baby name actually includes the 'baby'. thanks for the tip.:imbar
