Hello everyone.I am a soon to be RN grad this July and have a HUGE interest in travel nursing. I am single, no kids, and love to see new things (get bored easily!) I'm getting ready to accept my first RN job at a large Children's hospital in my hometown and plan on working there for 2 years. My question is, are there a plentiful amount of traveling pediatric nursing jobs throughout the country (including Hawaii, Virgin Islands) or does this specialty limit my future assignments as a possible travel nurse. Would I be better of starting on an adult med surg floor or something like that? I just want to be able to be "marketable" when I'm ready to travel! Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!:clown:

Please do what you love. Don't do something to make you marketable because if you go on an assignment and don't like it and don't do well then you won't be marketable for your next assignment. Nursing allows us so many opportunities we should take only the one's we love. There's nothing more exciting than getting up every day and doing what you love.

I saw a patient tonight in Wal-Mart and she's was so happy to see me and me her and she said, "I wish you would stay longer".. Now I don't care who you are that feels good.. That's nursing.

I believe you'll find peds assignment. I'm a fatalist an optimist fatalist that is. I believe things happen the way they are supposed to if we don't push.

Definitely agree with the above poster. Go for the expierience in an area that you really want to work in.

There are peds units all over the country, but not as many as adults, so less nurses needed. But it has never been an issue for me.

But you need to do what you really want, the market is always changing.

Hey I have been traveling for 8 years and my only specialty is peds. I have never had a problem finding an assignment.
