Info on Sharp Grossman in San Diego

I am considering a travel assignment to Sharp Grossmont Hospital in San Diego on their Tele/Stroke unit. Any info on conditions? Things I should check out (off the beaten track) if I do accept?

I am currently on an assignment at the Grossmont hospital. I work in the MICU but get floated out to the tele floors often. The hospital is nice, most of the staff is very helpful. This hospital uses a lot of travelers and agency nurses, so staff is prett used to helping us out. I mentioned that I get floated out of my unit quite often but I think that it is because we are usually overstaffed and our census is often low, but the tele floors always are in need of nurses, so I don't really think floating is such a problem for those nurses, but that is just my observation, I am not completely positive on that. Other than that the weather is beautiful, there is a lot of really great housing nearby. Let me know if you have any other questions, or if I can help in any other way.

Hi Megan, if you still have info on good places to rent- I am interested. I fly out next week to look at places. So far I have narrowed it down to San Carlos Townhouses and River Run Aparments (the more I look into this place, the more I stray away from it). If you know of any safe places I would greatly appreciate it! I am moving from Oregon to San Diego and start at Grossmont the week of Feb 15th.

Thanks!

I'm here in San Diego and you will enjoy any assignment here.

Grossmont is over in East County.

La Mesa and El Cajon is okay but if you have your own transportation Mission Valley is a better choice. Less riff-raff, newer accomodations and really good security patrols for safety. Less than a 15 min commute.

I have been here since July and wrapping up my 3rd contract. The weather is perfect so I bought a Motor Home for this last contract. With the travel compensation it will completely pay for itself in the 13-weeks before I leave.

San Diego is nothing short of awesome!

Good Luck to you and happy travels.

Thanks for the info! I leave today for SD to find a place to place and appreciate your feedback! Take care :)

CCU_RN_2008...I am wondering what you think about Grossmont Hospital and SD in general. I am considering moving out there. I am an ER nurse, currently traveling. Do you have any idea on their ER needs for a travel nurse? What company are you through, or are you staff? Any advice or recommendations for housing?

Thanks!

Hiya! I have been working for Grossmont since 2-15-10 and I love it! The hospital is really good. I feel supported and taken care of. I work in the float pool (for the hospital) and do not go to the ED so I do not have much info to share with you on that area, sorry. From my experience, Staff has been wonderful.

I LOVE SD!! I lived in Corvallis, Oregon for 2 winters and living here is a dream! If you like being outdoors, you will love it too :)

As for housing...there are lots of options! I used rent.com and craigslist.com. If you'd like you can email me and I can share more info with you [email protected] or you can write through allnurses.com if you feel more comfortable :)

Let me know how I can help you make your decision, either way! I have lots of pics that I can share with you too, if you'd like. I really love the area!

Take care and good luck!

I am coming out to cali end of may and do not kno what hospital to look at and where to live. I see Grossmont is a good one. I will be a nurse for 1 yr in june and have been working on a very busy tele floor since graduation.

I have 8 pts at night. do you guys kno what the ratio is out there. I applied for licensure almost 2 wks ago and hope to hear something soon. I am considering going with American mobile, any suggestions/info/ tips I would very much apprecaite

Thank you all

Edina :)

Hi Edina,

Wow...8 patients, that is crazy! It can't be safe! California state laws protect nurses. http://www.cga.ct.gov/2004/rpt/2004-R-0212.htm

I really enjoy working for Sharp Grossmont. There are lots of hospitals in San Diego, so you have many to look in to.

Mission Valley is a good starting place to live to become familiar with SD. I live in Allied Gardens and am 15 minutes to La Jolla Beach, 15 minutes from downtown, and 15 minutes to work. It works out great for me :)

Best wishes on your move! Keep us updated :)

Thank u 4 the info. I plan on coming end of may and see If I Can get a contract with American mobile. I have heard a lot of good things about grossmont and am looking forward to coming.

Is American Mobile the only agency Grossmont works with?

I'm not sure. I will ask them. I kno certain hospitals have a criteria travel nurses have to meet and I only have 1 yr exp so I don't kno if they would take me. My boyfriend is in the navy and stationed in San Diego. I want to come out there asap but I'm waiting on my license. What is the pay like out there for tele nurses with 1 yr exp.

How long have u Been at grossmont
