- Just found this web site. Have been in nursing off and on since the mid 70's and have just started as a travel nurse. Anyone with tips to share- they would be greatly appreciated. Look forward to browsing through this site often.

Hi!! I traveled for 3 years & it's the best thing I ever did! Where is your 1st contract? I was in Phoenix AZ, Newport Beach CA, Philadelphia PA, Baton Rouge LA, Winston-Salem NC & West Palm Beach FLA. I drove cross-country twice by myself & had a great time! See as much as you possibly can. You'll meet tons of people & make new friends. Ship as many belongings between contracts rather than taking everything in your car - it's safer. And only take what you need - there's always places to shop! You're going to find that different places do things in different ways, but no one way is right or wrong.

BTW, AZ & NC were my favorites! :)

I did my first contract at Rocky Mount ,NC . I am at the start of my second contract and it is in Hampton, Va. The hospital here seems nice so far. The area has a lot to see and do which is the main reason for coming here. Thank goodness basic nursing skills are the same where ever you go - just policies change.I am enjoying not having to deal with the politics of the hospitals. I am learning fast what to take and not take with me. You are right about there being shops where ever you go.

Welcome to allnurses.com! I moved your post to the Travel Nurse Forum, where you can get more responses.

Enjoy the site!
