I am an almost graduated RN. I am looking into traveling maybe after a year or two of experience. I was wondering what kind of experiences others had and what kind of questions I should ask of a potential employer. Should I get certified in a certain area before I start traveling?

Hi,

I am one year plus out of school. Investigating traveling now. Look in the travel nurse forum here, its pretty good. There I found direction to rnnetwork.com (a good place to start) and travelnursingcentral.com (what questions to ask). From what I hear, two years is best b/c you are on your own in these settings.

BTW, take good care of yourself the first year. Remember to hydrate yourself, eat very well. Destress from nursing school in some way (vacation). Be encouraged and know your strengths;).

Congrats ahead,

Yes, there are many questions you shoudl ask. First of all, do you have a permanent residence? Maybe your mom's home or maybe you live in your own private house? This is important because where ever you travel to, even with the agency paying your housing, you will be charged crazy taxes. Questions you should ask: How large is the company? How many years has the agency been experienced in? In my experience, I have been told many times to start with American Mobile because they are very organized and have a great reputation. The hospital that you work for may have travelers for you to ask about their personal experience. I know and have met a few that tell me about their agency, and some have gone to many agencies. One person I have met was a traveler for over 15 years with the same company. He said he had no complaints. You make your own plan of where to go, what cities do you want to see and so on.Then when the time comes, all of your decisions will be ready to become a reality. Anyway, enjoy your first year!!!!!!!! It's hard but tough it out ok@!!! Go into the fire and come out like gold!!
