fingerprint BCI for Ohio?

I'm getting ready to do an assignment in Ohio, the hospital is requiring a fingerprint BCI. Is this something new?

I have had them done for a license but not a specific hospital.

Thanks!

New to me! The hospital may have been burned by someone who assumed a nurse's identity which happens a good bit nationwide (not limited to nurses). Harder to do if a fingerprint is required. I suspect it is more about an identity check than a background check - the background check will return identical results (barring fingerprints crossed in some unsolved crime).

For example, an Ohio nurse was fingerprinted and received a license. Someone else who made up an identity with the same name (or has the same name) can just go online to pick up that nurse's credentials and start working unless identity is verified, by a fingerprint for example.

Thanks Ned.

I thought it was odd especially as I'm and Ohio resident. That makes sense. It is a LARGE teaching hospital in Cleveland. Lots of international visitors/observors/resident.

I wouldn't be too surprised if some kind of biometric identification such as fingerprints becomes pretty standard in the near future for new hires/travelers. Heck, iPhones have it, it can't that that difficult for employers to start using it similar tech too tied to a licensure database. It wasn't that long ago that background checks on travelers were rare, and very rare for licensure.
