I have 17 yrs. nursing experience and am considering trying travel nursing. It sounds wonderful when you read the ads and talk to the recruiters, but I would like some unbiased reports. Thanks.

I've been a traveler for three years. It has it's good and bad points. but overall, I much prefer it to a regular staff job.

Be sure to talk to several agencies. The bigger ones have more assignments, but usually pay less, and don't cover some costs for you that smaller companies will.

I have traveled with two different agencies.

I am on my first assignment so far and really liking it!!! Less politics, more control over my career!!! It's wonderful so far!!

Love traveling. Sorry I waited so long to do it. Talk to several companies before you hone in on one. Your larger companies tend to have more assignment opportunities, and at some of the more established hospitals. Some of the smaller companies may pay more, however, their benefits are not always what they are cracked up to be. Plus, sometimes the smaller companies may place you in hospitals that the larger companies pulled their contracts from at some point. So, just talk to a lot of different companies and see which one gives you the combination of pay and benefits that you are looking for.
