Cleaning fees

Just got an email from my company that they are billing me $1,100 in cleaning fees from my apartment. Which I moved out of 5 months ago when my contract ended. This is the second time I've heard of such a thing. Has anyone else been hit with a bill like this??

Lesson to be learned here. Walk through with apt manager before and after and document with photos and their written tool. Depending on the jurisdiction, the notification time is lacking. If you not currently working for the agency, I wouldn't pay it. Unless you did damage the apartment.

Sounds like something American Mobile would do.

It was my first assignment. No one walked me in or out. I know better now, but the ripped the carpets up and said I damaged them. They wouldn't have ripped the carpets up unless they were planning on replacing. So I'm sure I was screwed from the beginning. It seems like it is the apartment complex. They did it to my friend too. And yes it is American mobile.

Are you still working for American Mobile? If not, forget it. If somehow AM manages to get you in a courtroom, it is unlikely a judge or jury would think AM would wait 7 months to tell you about damages. Somewhat more likely and possibly disturbing if you need good credit is reporting you to a credit bureau as a deadbeat.

I would call the apartment complex and ask them if they really did replace the carpets. It doesn't surprise me that AMN would do this, they are a horrible company. Did they give you back your deposit after the contract ended? Usually on the last paycheck. I also wonder what apartment complex it is, so we can avoid being housed there too.

They never took out the deposit for that assignment. I told them I never expected to have to pay over the deposit and they said if it is excessive then yes I have to pay. Kind of defeats the purpose of a deposit then. If you want to know where the complex is pm me and I'll tell you.

Ned- I called the complex where I am on assignment at now and asked for a walk thru before I leave and they said they don't do that. That amn will hire a cleaning company to come out. So I asked my recruiter and she said take pictures, but I don't really see how that will protect me. Especially if they decide to rip the carpets up again. So how do I protect myself in this instance?

Also, I found this out after I got another assignment with them. I have not signed the contract yet. If they don't resolve this or at least lower the price a lot am I ok to back out of the contract if I haven't signed it yet?

Take a lot of pictures. Ideally, you would have taken them the first week you were there as well to document existing deficiencies that they may now claim are new. If your pictures show no damages at move out, it will be difficult for them to rip the carpet out on your tab.
