I am wondering opinions and strengths/weaknesses of the various travel nursing forums, and also if anyone knows of a Cath Lab specific forum. So far I've only come across this one at AllNurses, and the Delphi Forums. Is there one that is more active? One that has better beginner info? Any other comments/opinions/insights/forums welcome!

Best bet outside those two forums might be Facebook. While Facebook is not as good as threaded conversations on regular forums, lots of people hang out there, and that is where the latest generation or so of nurses do too. Reddit has some very small travel nurse forums too.

Allnurses has a very large contingent of student nurses so often the conversation here is very basic for example "what are the benefits of traveling". Delphi doesn't have that problem. Also, Delphi is not just nurse travelers, but allied health as well - the issues are 95% the same for healthcare travelers in general. But right now, Delphi is a shadow of its former self, knocked over by the recession and Facebook, and Allnurses has more posts and traffic.

If you look at the top of threads either here or on Delphi, you will see that every thread generates a very large reader base of mostly lurkers (like you with one post per year). Converting lurkers to posters is perhaps key to building a great community with value to more travelers. So I encourage everyone to chip in. Of special interest are personal anecdotes of travel, hospitals, and agencies. Questions and issues are what I tend to respond to, but everyone including me likes a good story.

It looks like all the specific cath lab posts on Allnurses are under the cardiac nursing forum. While this is a very hot specialty right now for travel, I suspect Allnurses has considered a specialty forum just for cath lab in the past but decided the specialty wasn't big enough.

He just put you on blast with your 2008 joining and only 8 posts... lurking is very common.

Thanks for your reply NedRN. Its true, I don't frequently post. I do enjoy reading other peoples questions and answers though. Often its just a matter of time, but I digress, as we're all strapped for time no doubt.

I agree. Facebook is where it's at. I don't know if there is a Cath lab specific forum there because I'm labor and delivery, but I belong to 3 L&D forums so there might be. It moves way faster than allnurses (and there's a lot of venting) but I agree that allnurses is more for students and wannabes. Not so helpful if you want to network and discuss issues pertinent to your field.

I agree with joining a few FB groups. If you're worried about anonymity just create an alias profile and join. I'm a member of more than 9 FB groups that way. The info moves much faster than here and in my opinion is more timely and accurate at times. Try ...
