Have heard some of you guys talking about companies offering rental cars. Who are those companies?

Anybody hear of a company offering a $5000.00 sign on bonus? My sister ran into somebody who's daughter had a position in CA. Is this fact or fiction?

Finally found this site:)

I've been traveling for a year with Supplemental and if they ever offered me a rental car I would die from the shock. They won't even give me an EZpass for the bridge I have to take to come to work, it's an island that home to a couple homeless shelters and the psych hospitals. I'm cheap so I take the bus most of the time. But then again this NYC. I have heard of those rentals and of outrageous bonuses but never from anyone firsthand so maybe it is one of the urban nursing legends.

I agree, it really does sound a little too good to be true doesn't it?

on assignment offers rental car for free or $ 20 per hour.but 401k is not good 1:5, healthcare not too bad

On Assignment doesn't offer $20 more if you do not take their rental car. Their healthcare is actually better than most and with better coverage than what many even offer.

I have to differ with you.

There are agencies that offer completion bonuses, not sign on bonuses as a travel nurse. But you are much further ahead with them if you get that bonus added into your hourly, otherwise if you look at the salary, it is going to be lower in many cases.

AS I keep saying, look at what they provide that is tax deductible to you, and give you what you need. Otherwise you can be giving everyhting to Uncle Sam.

Gotta agree with the last poster about the tax free stuff. That's the bulk of my money and hopefully it will help me get some financial aid when I go back to school (I can dream, right?) I get $1,000 completion bonus. It makes me feel better when I take my week off per contract.

Can anyone elaborate on the health insurance from on assignment. That is really the only thing I miss about being a staff nurse. I'm prior military so I go to the VA but would be nice to have that insurance card in my wallet. Thanks!

United Healthcare, either 90/10 or 80/20. Can't beat that, as well as dental, eye.....................

You are still better off getting that bonus added into your contract. If not, when you do actually get that bonus, it is taxed at a higher rate. Same as when you get relocation bonuses from hospitals. If they are a separate check, they get taxed at the higher rate.

Thanks! I'll call my recruiter tomorrow about the bonus. I forgot how Uncle Sam taxes bonuses heavier than earned income. DUh! Dental and eyes?! I don't know if I want to see my rotting teeth:uhoh3:

I had an offer for $5K completion bonus for a 13 week contract. They couldn't work it into my hourly of tax free money so I didn't take it. I would have gotten half after taxes.

On assignment does off the car....it's usually about a $5 difference in pay if you take the rental car or they offer you $20 a day in place of the rental car...usually ends up being an extra $600 a month.

I am looking to find more info about On Assignment as well. Does the 401k and health insurance take effect immediately? Do they have guaranteed hours? And what do you like most about working for them?

Health benefits start on the first day of the month, so depending on when you begin your contract.

All of my contracts have had guaranteed hours.

Best suggestion is to speak with a recruiter directly. And get things straight from them.
