  1. I've been nursing for 14years (I can't believe it) and each employer I've had brings on that same sadness for me as well. Each new job I've had brings new friendships and memories of old ones along with some real good gut rentching laughter along with all those tears that are shead. That's how we grow and thank goodness for the internet we can stay in touch. I hope you are experiencing more of a sadness and not depression. Good luck and :welcome: to the crazy world of being a nurse.
  2. Thanks for all your good ideas. Not sure what I'm going to do with them. Maybe mom can store them at her place for awhile. They are way to heavy to be hauling around the country. Thanks again!!
  3. Ok fellow nurses. What in the heck do you do with 15 year old nursing text books?
  4. Starting to travel in January would love to hear what are musts for you all to take along with you. Do you have storage units for the rest of your stuff, did you sell it? What do you do about your mail? Is it hard for you to not accumulate stuff as you go.....I like to shop that's why I ask. New year new hobbies I guess.

I agree, it really does sound a little too good to be true doesn't it?
  6. I've diagnosed myself with ADD never been treated but thinking about seeking out some help. My sister has it and is on meds which help her get thru the tasks on hand some days. I think the reason I enjoy med/surg nursing is because is so chaotic with serious multi tasking. The rest of my life....I struggle with decision making, completing projects, being able to focus and read a good book would be nice. I have no idea how I got thru nursing school.:chuckle Gee, don't I sound like a therapists challenge:uhoh3:
  7. I'm a Canadian nurse who has gone south. After graduation in 1991 nursing jobs were few. Hospitals were closing wards, laying off nurses. I was working 2 part-time jobs and still couldn't make ends meet. There are definite pros and cons to both systems. There are hard working Americans who go bankrupt after serious illness. There are hard working Americans who also can't afford health insurance and go untreated for serious health conditions. Sure Canada's system has it's cons as well but I know where I'm going to retire. Having the government with their hands in the pot brings standards and equal access which are both good things in my opinion.
  8. Graduated from Sir Sandford Fleming College in Peterborough Ontario.....a long time ago it seems. Worked in Tennesse for 10 years and currently in Cincinnati Ohio and looking forward to doing a little travel nursing in the new year.

Have heard some of you guys talking about companies offering rental cars. Who are those companies? Anybody hear of a company offering a $5000.00 sign on bonus? My sister ran into somebody who's daughter had a position in CA. Is this fact or fiction? Finally found this site:)
  10. I'm a med/surg nurse of 13 years looking into my first travel assignment in January. I have been talking to a recruiter for a few months and a couple things have come up and would love to hear your response. From reading these boards I have come to learn that it is the recruiter that can make or break your experience. 1. I had asked the recruiter if she could put me in contact with a couple of nurses who had been with the company for at least a year. She said she would, she hasn't and she or myself have not brought the subject up again. Is this a common request? 2. Today I was supposed to have a phone interview with a person that works for the company and was "very familiar" with the needs of the facility. Is this common practise? Do nurse managers ever do the interviewing? 3. I never recieved the call after sitting around waiting all morning. Kinda like waiting for the cable guy:) I called the recruiter and she said she would call the woman and get back to me that afternoon. Never heard from them. Not a very good first impression on my part OR am I not being "flexible" enough? 4. Contracts, do I sign one? What's in it? Can I request things to be in the contract? I'm soooo excited about this but I think I'm still shopping for a company. Let me know what you think. Thanking you in advance!
