Whatcha know good? ~ McAllen and Round Rock

Hi everyone!

I am going to finish nursing school with my RN in a month. I 'was' considering going to Colorado. (and I may yet still)

I am going to be a New Grad. CO doesn't seem very new grad friendly. (Just my impression....not a concrete fact)

BUT....

A recruiter called me with a possible job lead in Round Rock and McAllen.

This piqued my interest because I do have family in Devine/San Antonio.

They are HCA hospitals and I was wondering if anyone had any information about the hospitals, the towns, the pay.....

I am not too hung up on how much they pay. I would more like to know if you can live well on the pay. (afford a house, send kids to private school, etc)

I am a single mom and McAllen is 4 hours away from family and Round Rock is 2 hours away.

RUN AWAY!!! I would rather return to waiting tables before returning to any HCA facility. The new grad pay is pathetic and certainly not enough to send your kids to private school :(

Hi RNMommy, I am currently working in a HCA facility in Colorado- I started as a new grad. The pay is comparable to other facilities in the area. I do agree with you that Denver is not very new-grad friendly and it can be hard to find a position because they fill up very fast. I do know the hospital where I am at does hire a lot of new grads and overall I like my job, I was hired on to full time days/ med-tele. I am considering transferring to Mcallen for other reasons. If you want more information about the facility I work at just message me or if you find out anything about Mcallen hospitals I am very interested as I may be moving out there very soon. Which hospital in Mcallen are you interested in?

I hope you have gotten many favorable replies to your request for information - I would just like to add WELCOME TO TEXAS!!! :yeah: And bring all your nurse friends. New hospitals are sprouting up in all of ouur metropolitan areas and we need good nurses to staff them.

I am with a healthcare system with facilities in San Antonio, Houston & Corpus Christi. Please let me know if you are interested in any of those areas. I would be more than happy to hook you up with the appropriate recruiter. I would really recommend the San Antonio area. It has a growing economy, very low cost of living, affordable housing & great schools for your kids
