the wait game is still going...

U.S.A. Texas

Hey guys,

Just trying to kill some time while I wait and wait for the letters to come. I feel a little better because I heard that a few people already got their denial letters from UTMB. Maybe the later it gets the better? Who knows?

Anyone else playing the waiting game? Any suggestions on how to get through this??? I would hate to die of anticipation before the letter gets here. :)

Yeah, I saw that they will start that in 2007. I've applied for Fall 2006. I really think its a good thing. I can't tell you how many students I've talked to that dropped out after starting clinicals. They had never stepped foot in a hospital or been around sick people; therefore, they "wigged out" during patient care. Having a prerequisite of prior medical experience would prevent the waste of a coveted slot in the program. Again, as a CNA, I may be biased!

I'm a military corpsman so I think I should be ok with the clinicals

I am applying to the regular program as well. I already have a biology degree but I know I wouldn't do well in the accelerated program. I am also applying to a local community college program as a backup. :) Because of the program I am in (the work-school program at UTMB)- I have to work. But its pretty sweet. They pay for my tution and books and give me administative leave when I have class. Plus when I am in clinicals I only have to work 24 hrs a week and I get paid my full time salary AND I get to keep all of my benifits. Luckily I have a fairly flexable job so I will be able to juggle my schedule.

I don't know whole lot about the SON here at UTMB but I do like working here. :) IMOP they take care of you.

That sounds like a super program. Do you have to work for UTMB afterward?

For the work school program you are only have to work there while you are in the program. But If I were to quit now I would have to pay back everything. So you have to be sure.

There are other programs here as well, some require you to commit to working here for awhile. But nothing is super long term.

So.....are UTMB students considered Longhorns also? Or is the school an entirely different entity?
