UTMB Spring 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

The application process has just gotten under way for UTMB spring admission. Has anyone taken the TEAS tests? Any helpful hints on getting a high score?

Great job! You did really well on the science section. Since English is not my first language, I'm very scared with the reading section :(. Were the passages longer than the practice tests? I hope I don't run out of time... Also, are the online practice tests similar to the actual tests? Sorry for asking so many questions. I'm just so NERVOUS!!

The passages in the reading sections are no longer on the actual test as opposed to the practice tests. The online tests are similar in style to the actual test, I do believe they are the best way to prepare. Don't let the test psych you out, I think a lot of people get too nervous about the test and it affects their scores. Arrive early, leave your cell in the car ( they don't allow it in the testing center period) and relax a little bit before the test. You can get up and walk around after you complete each section, which I highly recommend. It sounds as though you have studied well so you should do exceptionally well! Just keep telling yourself that on the day of the test " I'm going to own this test!" Sounds silly but it really does help.

Best of luck!

@Seheck:

Hey! I went to a UTMB open house this past Saturday and they said that a Bachelor's degree being factored in depends on which track you're looking at applying to. If you're applying to the Traditional BSN, it will not give you a leg up if you have a Bachelor's degree. It also doesn't matter what your degree is it. If you have a degree in Bio etc, and someone has a degree in English, you're both looked at equally. However, you're also looked at equally with those who have no degrees yet.

If you're applying to the accelerated track, however, it matters. It's actually designed for those students who have a Bachelor's degree.

They also said that they do take into consideration where you took your courses. They know that if you took your prereqs at A&M, your GPA will most likely be lower than someone taking their courses at HCC. Therefore, a low GPA is not too bad, especially since it's from a four-year university.

I hope I answered your questions. :)

Oh, I did not know that! I heard that the passages were longer in the actual test... I don't know what to believe. :( at this point, I don't know what to study. So are there just questions over reading the shrt passages and diagrams and charts? I'm getting a 90 in the reading and the english section, 100 in math if I don't make stupid mistakes, but a 70 in science. Like I said, I went through the ATI and McGraw Hill practice tests. Will this be enough? Sorry for so many questions. I am just so nervous!!

Hey everyone, my name's Levi and I'm also applying for the Spring 2014. I just took the TEAS V yesterday. Now, I just have to finish my statement and send it in. I went to the Information Session on June 8th and just being on campus made me feel like a student already. I'm also excited about being on Galveston because it's so different than Houston.

Hi Levi,

I am also working on my personal statement now. It is a little difficult for me discern everything pertinent I want to say in 500 words or less. I could write quite the essay on why I want to be a nurse. I hope we don't have to stalk our mailman or email inbox for 6 months! Good luck!

It is understandable you are nervous about the test, I believe that most applicants are quite nervous until they know for sure they have been accepted into the program. However, you must remember that if you have studied and you know you have put 110% into, all you can do is hope for the best. If it comes to be that you did not do as well as expected, all you have to do is reevaluate your study techniques and try to brush up on the areas you were not satisfied in. Again, I am sure you will do just fine, you are scoring higher than I did on the practice exams if that helps at all.

Good luck on your test!
