UTHSC Traditional BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!

It's just A&P 1, 2, chem and micro. Not nutrition!

Oh okay great, thanks! Where are you ladies doing your pre req courses?

I'm at UT Arlington!

I did about half of my classes at UT San Antonio, but I am finishing at Lone Star since I moved to Houston.

Specializes in Emergency Room.

Hi everyone,

I just finished my last semester at HCC :cat:, where I completed all of my prerequisites and will be receiving an AA in Health & Medical Science. I will be applying at TWU and UTHSC for the Spring. That means I have to take the HESI and the TEAS. . . :o Oh well. Gotta do what I gotta do, right? I am really scared, but I try to stay optimistic. I won't be taking the exams 'till late in the summer because I really want to get a lot of study time in.

So here are my stats:

Cumulative GPA: 3.7

Science GPA: 4.0

GPA for the classes that actually count towards my BSN: 3.9

I really hope I get in to either schools, but I really want to go to UTHSC because it's only a year (4 consecutive semesters). I feel like the only thing holding me back will be my entrance exam scores, so I'm prepping ALL summer!

Best of luck to everyone, future nurses!:nurse:

Felicia....I was in your Chem class (Loretta - a.k.a Lori) -- how'd you do? I agree, I'd rather take more A&P classes as well. Unfortunately I ended up with a B in the class -- Grrrrr! That makes me crazy!

Has anyone here taken A&P at HCC? I am wondering what the labs are like? Is it mostly dry labs looking at pictures and models? Or are we dissecting something, and if so, what are we dissecting? If we dissect, do we work on that every week? Thanks for your help!

OMG small world! I ended up with a B too :( Went into the final with an A, but that final kicked my butt! It's the only science class that I haven't made an A in, so I'm hoping that it won't hurt me too bad.

I took A&P1 with ***** & A&P2 with *****. ***** uses the lab portion of class to lecture and she uses models to help you learn during lab. ***** only used microscopes in lab. Unfortunately we didn't get to dissect anything in either class & both professors seemed as if this was the norm at HCC.

Felicia, thanks for the info! That is actually good news because I am trying to avoid all of the nasty chemicals that they use for preservation. (Also, identifying structures on a model is MUCH easier than on an animal). So, yay! I hope that my professor will be like that too. Thanks again!

Has anyone taken the HESI and can give information on the critical thinking section?

My test is scheduled for June 8, so I'll let ya know as soon as I take it :)
