UTHSC Traditional BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!

Can you take the HESI Exam for one school and transfer the score to another school? For me, I plan on applying to mutliple schools. If I take the HESI for Uthsc Houston, can I get those scores transfer to Prairie View A&M as well. I don't want to take two test that are the same. It will be costly otherwise.

Yes you can! If you Procter through UTHSC it automatically sends them there, and I believe it costs $15 to send it elsewhere!

I believe the other girls are taking late May, but I am taking late June. Fefe - are you applying for the Spring? The application is due August 15th, and I think HESI scores have to be at the school by that date. When I registered with Elsevier, it only gave me the option to register through June 30th, so that's when I'm taking it.

OMG good point! I completely forgot about the due date of 8/15  I've got a bad case of finals brain going on right now lol. So I'm thinking the best time would be in May also. I'm taking a 3-week online Sociology course from 5/13-5/31, but I'm thinking I'll have enough time to study and take the HESI before the summer classes start on 6/3.

I too have been reading the Critical Thinking book. It seems to be more structured towards students that are in nursing school, but it all seems to rely mostly on common sense. It's the one area I'm most concerned with scoring the highest. Good luck to you all on your exams!

Oh, and I've got a bit of info that I just received from the registrar that I wanted to pass along. When I started my application, there was an item listed on my To-Do List that stated I needed to submit my TSI score. I had no clue what this was, so I emailed the registrar and they replied back that this is the entrance exam that you take before starting your prereq's and the scoring info would be listed on your transcript, so not to worry about it. So glad that's one less thing I have to worry about!

I'm taking a 3 week SOCI course from HCC! Is that the one that you are taking too? With Portia Tinnermon?

I'm taking it online with Daniel Argo. A friend of mine recommended him. :)

Hi everyone!

I am also applying for the Spring 2014 semester. After reading a gazillion posts on here for people applying for previous semesters and I have begun to worry about my GPA. The science seems a little low. What do you guys think?

Nursing - 3.89

Science- 3.69

I did take the HESI, but it was for Lone Star and they didn't require all of the sections that UT does. I am going to take the HESI again towards the end of May so I can get the rest done. Here are the scores that I have:

Math - 100%

Reading Comprehension - 94%

Vocabulary and General Knowledge - 94%

Grammar - 96%

Anatomy and Physiology - 90%

Critical Thinking, Learning Styles and Personality Styles were not included on the test I took.

I am hoping to improve the A and P grade this time around because I just finished A and P II.

Good luck to everyone!! I hope we all get in :)

mze - I think your gpa and scores sound fine to me, but I know that cut-offs change each semester. I went to the info session a few weeks ago, and I think I remember them saying that in previous semesters the cut-offs have been anywhere from 3.5 to 3.7. So with those numbers, I think you should be okay???

Thanks!! It just worries the heck out of me when I see people who don't get in with a 4.0. It is hard to pinpoint exactly what they are looking for, you know?

Good luck!

Yes, I am very nervous too about getting accepted. I am applying for both spring and summer and hope that I get in to one of them!

Do you guys know which classes are included in the science GPA? I thought it was just A&P I and II, Micro, and Nutrition?

Hi.. It's A&P I, A&P II, MICRO, CHEM. I really don't think Nutrition is included in the Science GPA.
