Texas Tech Traditional BSN Fall 2012

U.S.A. Texas

I'm totally new to this and I am amazed at all the information this web site provides! Is anyone else on here going to be applying for the TTU Traditional Nursing Program for the Fall 2012 semester? Also, I need to take intro to nursing and pathophysiology this Spring. Is it best just to take it at Tech? Any input would be most helpful! :D

This site, NursingCAS, and Merlin I check almost everyday; I sloughft off because no one was posting. So glad to see more comments!

TTYekaye, yeah I discovered the TEAS won't be a requirement till Fall 2012-Spring 2013. And I made an account for this sole reason of support and knowing I am not alone.. Good luck!

pgevedon, I agree! Everyone seriously sounds like they have somewhat different but equally good requirements in some way. At the most 11 more weeks! Yikes! Good luck to you as well! :)

Some of my other friends have already found out that they have been accepted to the next round or denied at other nursing schools. I wish Tech updated us on that lol. I hate waiting. -_- But, oh well it won't be too much longer until we all find out!

Oh wow, really? That would be sweet getting an update. This could be due to my busy classes, but seems like time is flying!

Hey everyone! I am also applying to Texas Tech SON! I finished my application in mid-January. I have a 3.9 GPA, and everyone says "oh you will get in!" but I don't want to get overconfident! Anybody hear anything yet from the school?

Welcome C.J.! Sounds like you've got good odds, but I agree with not being too confident :)

And nope, haven't heard anything yet. Just checked Merlin and NursingCAS for the first time in about a week, haha that's got to be a record for me. We've got about 5-6 weeks left till mid-April, that's when I noticed other had gotten their letters in another discussion on here. Its getting close!!

Hey LittleMissRedRaider! Oh gosh I'm doing good if I don't check Merlin and NursingCAS once an hour!! I know but as it gets closer I'm getting more and more nervous! What campus are you applying to?

Haha, I started out that way but grew tired of nothing changing, plus knowing nothing will till about April. Completely agree, the closer the "due months" come the more aware I become of my anxieties. At least I am not fretting as to whether I messed up the application or not! My stomach dropped one day when I thought I forgot the one and only class I ever withdrew from, haha.

And I am applying to the Lubbock campus! How about yourself? And is this the only place you applied? Always curious..

I'm getting better at not checking so much :). You're right it just becomes depressing when you look 4 times the same day!! I agree. I thought the CAS was a bit difficult when I first opened it, but it became pretty easy once everything got done! I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the whole GPA Calculation/Transcript Verification took! I applied to the Odessa Campus. I'm not from Odessa, but I have family from around there and I had a nice job in surgery at the hospital in Midland and they said I could have it part time/prn in school and on holidays. This is the only one I have applied to so far. I considered applying to the associate degree programs in the area, but Midland hospital has issued a statement saying that they wouldn't hire anything under a BSN for RN anymore . I haven't met one person applying to the Permian Basin/Odessa Campus yet, makes me wonder how many have applied! Did you already take pathophysiology or intro. to nursing?

Haha! Yeah, I complained for 2 days straight about the CAS application... Pretty sure my family never wants to go through that again! In the end the system was pretty 'cut and dry', which was nice. I also felt like they worked fast, at least with my transcripts.

I am currently taking patho and intro to nursing. Our first discussion board in nursing was an introduction of ourselves, seemed like most were applying to Lubbock, some to El Paso, and I've heard of a couple to Odessa. And a lot of hospitals prefer a BSN, most people with an associates or LVN work for in-home healthcare programs. Several members of my family are LVNs and have mocked my choice at becoming an RN with a BSN, but all of them work for in home health, which is NOT something I am interested in. Have you taken the patho and nursing classes? Or currently taking them?

That's exactly what I am seeing in various regions of Texas, too, with the whole home-health=ADN/LVN pattern. I plan on going on in nursing, so why not cut to the chase and get my BSN, you know? Very nice! I am actually taking both from Tech too right now! I got in the class a few weeks late (I am going to school to complete my Associates from Western Texas College) and just jumped at the opportunity. Intro to me was pretty easy to catch up in, but patho took some serious studying to get ahead!

I don't live in Lubbock, but if I get a SON acceptance letter I'll be moving ASAP this summer. So, both of my classes are online. I miss being on a school campus, but am glad they offer the last 2 pre-req's via the web. Moving there and not knowing the future and only taking a half load seemed extreme, haha.

Intro is easy, but also easy to get behind in! Yes, this is the voice of experience. Thankfully its an interesting class. I bet patho was difficult to catch up! I like it and find it interesting too, but its so hard! I wish I had taken it in a classroom setting, because mine is a self-instructed course; so there is no lecture, only reading. Its smart to cut out the extra level of licensing in nursing and go for the gold, haha! Glad that you made it into the classes though, I finished my associates last summer and took the fall off to work. Its nice getting back into my "normal"!

Yeah, it definitely is nice, and you know I am glad they have made them prerequisites because with nursing school being difficult pre-nursing students should know what they are up against! It was difficult, but I bounced back after spending a whole weekend doing the modules and everything haha. Yep a whole lot of nurses who went with ADN simply because it was "faster" are kicking themselves to go back and get their BSN. If I don't get into TTUHSC Permian Basin this time around, I'm going to work for the fall to save up and get my CNA license. I already have my EMT, but if I don't get in this time around it will keep me in the nursing game for next time! If you don't mind me asking (totally cool if you don't want to share, I understand), what is your GPA?
