U.S.A. Texas

Published

I am applying for Texas Tech's accelerated BSN program. So I wanted to start a thread for all Fall2013 hopefuls. I think I am going to apply to both Austin and the other location that is not El Paso(I can't think of the name)

@bibi321 --Yes I got mine on July 11th. I already sent it in as requested.

I'm still waiting on mine. Do we contact Board of Nursing or who for update

When did you go take care of this? I went on June 24th. It took approximately 3 weeks. When did you go?

I did my fingerprinting in Illinois so I had to mail in my fingerprints. It wasnt electronic. I mailed it on July 5th. I called BON to make sure they got it and they said yes so I'll wait till the 1st week in August and see if they'll mail it by then.

Just finishing up the Abilene program. For those of you starting there, take a look at Newport Village apartments. They're clean, gated, quiet, and convenient to everything. Three of us living there this year. I just moved out today. I think their getting somewhere around $500/month for a 1 bedroom. Good luck to you. It's a great program run by very good people.

Hi Mr sensitivity. Congratulations on finishing the program. Can you please share some tips on how to succeed in this program with us. Thanks and good luck on everything.

Hi bibi321. You won't have any trouble. You already have one degree, and that says a lot about commitment to finish something. I think that's one of the reasons they created a fast paced program like this. All of the students have proven themselves already. It is very intense, but you'll find the atmosphere to be much more collegial than your first college experience. They operate the program sort of like grad school, and you're treated like an adult.

The best advice I could give you is to get a good appointment book/calendar and stay organized. The assignments will be coming from every direction so you'll need to stay on top of things. The volume of reading material is almost unmanageable, so you have to prioritize and scrutinize what material is the most important. The technical knowledge will come to you with no problem, it's the thought process that will be challenging. Testing will be odd to you, and in the beginning everyone will complain loudly about the questions and the way they are worded. But the goal is to make you think like a nurse. It sounds strange but you'll see what I mean soon enough. Good luck to ya.

MrSensitivity Thank You so much for providing insight in the program. If you don't mind me asking. Did you do your clinicals during the day or mixed, day and night? Just curious. Thanks again for your post.

I did all of mine on day shift. A number of my classmates worked nights. Everybody prefers days, but don't sweat it if you get nights. Some of the best coaches are on nights, and on nights there's a lot of autonomy. You can actually learn a lot more.

Thanks so much, I am actually doing my clinicals in Amarillo. But I don't mind nights. I don't care. I am sure I can function well on either. I think for our site we well have mostly nights.

Did you buy the digital version of your reading material? Or did you stick to traditional textbook format? I am debating on which route to take. Thanks!

Do they send you registration and textbooks info right after you complete the virtual orientation? I have not received any further information, what about y'all?

Did you send your Signature page as they asked to the coordinators? I got an email saying:

Thank you. You have turned in everything needed. **(Coordinator)** will send registration information soon.

Just removed coordinators name so that they don't do it for me. :specs:
