Texas Med Center Hospitals

U.S.A. Texas

i am relocating to houston in june because my husband took a job at hermann memorial @ texas med center. i am currently looking at hospitals in tmc, specifically the methodist, st. lukes, and hermann. i have 1 1/2 yrs experience in step-down cardiac care. i have spoken with a few rn recruiters and had one rn recruiter interview. i really want feedback from rns familiar with the area as to which hospitals have the best reputation (pt ratios, competitive pay, magnet status, team work on the units, low employee turnover...)

Methodist is known to treat their nurses well. Ben Taub is a great hospital with really diverse patients and conditions, but not for the weak hearted or thin skinned LOL. Hermann is a good place to work as well. Ive heard good things about St. Lukes in the Med Center, but they seem to really be selective. To be honest, I can't say anything bad about anyone of those hospitals! If anything I would complain more of the commute/parking in the Med canter.

All TMC facilities are pretty much top-notch. They are all pretty much in the same ballpark, salary-wise, because they're literally right next door to their competition. I did hear that Memorial-Hermann recently made significant changes in their benefits package, including eliminating their defined-benefit pension plan though - so you may want to examine benefit packages very carefully.

PP is correct about the parking situation - it can add a significant amount to your commute time. Lots of folks have chosen to live close to the commuter rail line just so that they don't have to hassel with shuttling back and forth to distant parking lots.
