Tarrant County College Fall 2014 Nursing Program

U.S.A. Texas

This topic was created for those who will be applying to Tarrant County College's Fall 2014 Nursing Program. The dialog is open for those who have never applied and those who have applied multiple times. Let's discuss our frustrations, stats, best practices for study and the HESI, where you are at achieving your goal, and if you plan to apply anywhere else.

I have applied and was turned down 3.50 Science, 90 HESI, 970 Critical thinking (for another nursing program). I was knocked down, but I refuse to stay there.

Let's talk!

Hello! I'm in the same boat! I applied for spring 2014 with the same scores and was denied. I'm bummed, but I'm just ready to reapply. It hurts even more because I know previously people have even accepted with a 3.5 GPA and 90 HESI, after being placed as an alternate. So, I'm gonna retake a class and my HESI and try again in February.

Hi Elavette04! I have actually seen posts in the past where people got in with less than a 3.50 and not as an alternate. I agree, it is REALLY depressing when it appears to have no rhyme or reason. I had a feeling this would happen to me though and am now re-taking A&P II. I haven't decided it I'm going to re-take A&P I again. I've had some bears for teachers and each time was points from an A and nothing!:crying2:

I am going to re-take the HESI again as well but with El Centro so that I can do the anatomy section and apply for El Centro and TCU this go round. I think a 90 is great but you never know!

Not to say I am glad I am not alone, but I am glad I am not alone (with my feelings).

Exactly!! It sucks, had I applied 1 year or even 1 semester ago, I would've gotten in! Somebody else told me to try El Centro, so maybe I'll look into it. I am going to retake the HESI with TCC in Feb, and retake micro in the spring... Hopefully, I can get a higher grade on the HESI next time, even if I don't, I'm just gonna reapply with my 3.5 and 90... The worse they can do is tell me "no" again lol You never know what could happen. Do you have any info on what I need to apply with El Centro? I feel kinda silly that I didn't apply to more than 1 nursing program. I know exactly what you mean, I'm glad there's someone out there that feels what I feel!! I would've applied at UTA but since I didn't take my sciences there, I wasn't competitive with their students...

Definitely apply again. They are going to have to keep telling me no until they get tired and say come on in! And with UTA, THAT sucks! Like I was about to spend $5000 just to get an edge on a student given that considerations above me! I think NOT! For Micro, definitely look at the professor rating sites. It helped me A LOT. I took online lecture and lab at Northeast with two wonderful women. the extra credit they offered gave me more than enough cushion and further opportunities to learn new things.

With El Centro, you will have to take the HESI with Anatomy and Physiology. Since TCC doesn't offer that section, it would be taking the test all over again with a school that does. From what I have been researching, El Centro works off a point system and the pre-reqs are different. It's A&P I, English Comp, and General Psy. The competition is points based; 40 pts max. They give points for your GPA, HESI, Supporting classes (general ed), Basic Health Skills class HPRS 1204 (which I may take) gives extra points. Immunizations, CPR card, physicals must be done and submitted up front with the application.

Points I can compete with because I am core complete. I think you should check into it. I took the A&P section and made an 80 which ticked me off because I made stupid mistakes missing 5 of the 25 questions because there was no clock and I though I was running out of time.

I just checked the Spring El Centro post.. there are people who got in with 29 points... just calculated and I have 29 points... I feel sick and am applying for FALL! AAAGGGHHH!

Ok, cool! Thanks for the info! Somebody said with el centro it's a guarantees job after graduation and that the cost of books are included in the tuition. Do you know of that's true?

I'm not sure about the books, but I have noticed a lot of el centro nurses working in North Hills and Baylor system. I'll do some research on the books.

Ok cool! And I'm gonna look into that school today while I'm at work... Thanks for the tip!!

Also, how do I sign up for the HESI at el centro? I can't find any info on their website about how to sign up for the test.

I found it, it's on the evolve website... That's different.

Is there a phone number I can call? I need to know if I have to be an el centro student before I can apply to the program and take the HESI... All the phone numbers on the website nobody answers.... Now I'm freaking out!!
