Seriously considering moving to Fort Worth...need help with job search!

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello, I've posted on here before early on when I was thinking about moving to Texas, and now my boyfriend and I are ready to take things to the next level....so I'm really starting to amp up my resume and ready to apply for positions. I'd be living in Fort Worth, and I really don't know much about places to work in the area. I have my BSN and have 9 months experience as charge nurse on a skilled nursing unit in a hospital. I am interested in psych nursing, community health/public health nursing, correctional nursing, and long term care. Where are some good places to find jobs like that? I really don't care about money, I want a job that I care about and makes me feel like I'm really helping others. Even just names of places are helpful, I'm a pretty good google searcher ;) I've looked on websites but would like an in on where are good places to work. And how does it work if I don't have a Texas license right now? I obviously will be getting one...but will they accept my resume before I have it? And also, what do people think of the Fort Worth area? Everytime I've been out there I love it, everyone is so nice and it's just beautiful. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!!! :nuke:

Hi, there! I moved from California to Fort Worth a little over 2 years ago.

People in the DFW area tend to think of FW as more laid-back and less cosmopolitan than Dallas, the big city located 30 miles to the east. If you're interested in LTC, there are literally hundreds of LTC jobs listed in our local paper, the Fort Worth Star Telegram (which can be accessed online). If you're interested in psych, there's a psychiatric hospital called Millwood Hospital, which is located in the city of Arlington (adjacent to FW). There's another psychiatric hospital in Denton called University Behavioral Health. If you're interested in correctional nursing, you can apply online at the Bureau of Prisons website, since there's a facility in FW.

I did not have a TX license when I moved to FW. I simply endorsed my CA license into TX, which was a straightforward process.

Specializes in 2 years as CNA.

I work for an agency that staffs in Ft. Worth and I can tell you some of the places that my nurses love working at.

I hear good things about Baylor Surgical in Ft. Worth, Baylor of Trophy Club, and Regency Ft. Worth.

I have heard about quite a few issues at Kindred Mansfield so I would avoid it there.

My agency also contracts with all of the correctional facilities in Texas. If that is what you are interested in then there is definitely a job for you!! They have tons of needs.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions and I will be glad to help you out if I can. :nuke:

I am not endorsing my agency or anything. I am just telling you what I hear.
