Hi! I applied for Sac's spring 08 nursing program. Has anyone who has applied had any trouble getting info from the nursing program? I never received an acceptance OR a rejection letter. I can not get a hold of anyone to talk to. I leave messages and get no responses. When I have gone to the school all I get is "the run around".

Anyone have any advice?

I do not have eneough pre-reqs to apply to a bsn school and I do not know of any other asn school in San Antonio.:uhoh3:

Thanks so much for all of the valueable info, SolaireSolstice! How is it going for you, since you're already a student at SAC?

I purchased the nursing student handbook, but going back for the rest of the items next week, and check out Medix for scrubs, etc. I have a dumb question though: How do you know what classes to register for? I noticed in the handbook it had a sample schedule with a list of classes for each semester, and you fill in the grades for each as you complete them. Is that what you go by? Then I heard for the first semester, an advisor is the one who registers you? Not sure how true that is. I asked someone when I should register for classes, and she said after Dec. 15th when I turn in the rest of the forms, but to me that is cutting it close! I haven't registered yet, but would like to very soon.

Also, I know you said WHITE nursing shoes...so does the handbook. I have a pair of mostly white tennis shoes that I was hoping to use, but there is a little bit of navy blue on them. Are the instructors really picky about that, or do you think my shoes will be acceptable? If not, I'll need to buy some shoes...and white scrubs.

Sorry for all the questions. I've waited way too long to go to nursing school...just want to stay on top of things and don't want anything falling through the cracks! :specs:

Is anyone else getting excited/nervous???

You won't register for your first classes, they will register you for them when you go and prove you are eligible to start (the day you show your immunizations and such), the day on your letter/e-mail. And you'll get a print out of your schedule then.

Most instructors won't care about a "little bit" of navy blue, but one or two might. You can take your chances if you can't afford new ones, but I sprang for all white.

hey guys!! i am starting the rn program as sac too! i have one question... do you know if when you reg for the background check if they send a conformation letter in your e mail... i dont have a printer at home...so i wanted to make sure it was sent to my e-mail and then i can print it at school!? thanks for the help! also i am sooo taking notes from this blog!!! so excited!!! :) :redpinkhe

Yes, you just get a receipt/confirmation sne to the e-mail you registered with when you pay for it. The results are sent directly to SAC.

I saw your other thread. Pharmacology is taken in your 2nd semester (or during the break between the semesters, try to take it during summer if you can) The prerequisites are Fundamentals and Med Surg 1.

Or did you mean Pharmacology math? That one, and the medical terminology course is through the Continuing Education dept at SAC. Go here to see the catalog and the instructions for registering: http://www.accd.edu/sac/ce/class_sched.html

As long as you are a nursing student, you can sign up for most the continuing education classes. This is also where you'll sign up for the optional IV Therapy class (to save you time in med sug 2). All of the continuing education classes are optional.

I took the CPR class this past Saturday, which was the last thing I needed. After the class, I purchased scrubs. Almost ready for the adventure! Just one question about the clinical uniform: Is the required color white (top and bottom)? From the student handbook, that's how I understood it. A few weeks ago, I purchased several nursing student patches for the uniform tops and labcoat, but haven't sewn them on yet, because I need to know for sure that I purchased the correct color scrubs!

Thanks!

yes, white tops and bottoms. However, when in the Pediatrics rotation (during your 3rd semester) you will be allowed to wear "colorful" print scrub tops during your clinical rotations.

My suggestion for the colorful tops, don't have the patches sewn on. Use one of the "button holders" I posted about earlier that are availble at Michaels' or Hobby Lobby. That way you can use the scrub tops after you graduate and won't have to remove the patches. Or you can sew velcro to the back of the patch and the scrub top, but you are left with the same issue in removing the velcro.

Some students use the button holders all the time, even on white tops, but I have no idea why. I'm not planning on wearing a pure white scrub top again, and they do stain very easily. After you graduate, you can donate your old white scrubs to the TNSS on campus and they will give them out to people who can't afford them.

I took the Saturday CPR class too. I haven't purchased my scrubs yet. I registered for the understanding PHarm class today. I hope my work will allow me to attend. I should find out in a day or so. Good luck. Maybe we will see each other on the 15th.

Well I go my schedule on Tues. It looks like ill be going to evening classes. I tried to look up the professors that were on my schedule but I could not find them on ratemyprofessor.com. I am so excited. Does anybody else have these two classes?

I too have evening classes. Lecture/lab MT from 4-7:50, and clinicals WR from 1-6:45 for the first half of the semester, and for the second half, lecture/lab MT 4-7:50, clinicals WR 3:45-9:45. I'm also very excited! Good luck to you!

These post are a couple of years old so maybe ill get an answer. What was yalls gpa's and do they consider the classes that you are curently taking?

I have just been accepted for Jan 2012 and my GPA was 3.90. I am not sure if this helps but I applied last semester and was turned down because I had not finished all of my pre-requisites.
