Hi All!

I am in the hiring process at the Dallas VA hospital. I am planning to relocate in June. I have elementary aged school kids. Moving to an area with a great school district is the probably the most important factor of where we will live. I have heard the northern Dallas areas - like Plano have really good school districts, but I have not heard of any in the Southern / South west / South East side of Dallas (like Grand Prairie, Duncanville, ie). I would appreciate any info/suggestions. Especially of where NOT to move.

I currently work at a HCA facility and thought about going part time/per diem at a HCA facility in/near Dallas - any suggestions of where to or NOT to work?

Anyone who works at the Dallas VA Hospital, I have a lot of questions for you :) I have read some negative OLD postings regarding the Dallas VA on here - haven't seen any current reviews about the hospital.

Do you like the facility? Is it old(er)? How is the equipment? What type of pumps and computerized charting system do you use?

I would appreciate any info/suggestions that anyone provides!

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Pairo. I am also moving to Dallas on July 20 to be exact. I was offered a job at the VA as well. A little nervous, but am ready for the transition from New York. I also would like to know more about the facility.

I ended up at the VA in Kansas City. How do you like the Dallas VA?

Congratulations on the move. I've lived in the Dallas suburbs most of my life. Though it is a long drive from the VA Hospital I would highly recommend the Frisco or Plano school districts. I moved to Frisco several years ago purposely for the schools and couldn't be happier with the education my kids have gotten.

My personal opinion is that I would not live close to the hospital or in the DeSoto, Duncanville, south Dallas areas unless my kids were out of school.

Hope that helps.

I have done a few clinicals at the Dallas VA and the building is older, and a bit depressing honestly. The charting is one of the very first charting systems invented, they use CPRS for charting and BCMA for medications. The IV pumps on the floors I've been to are good. They are the Alaris smart pumps.
