Prereqs... 4 year or community college does it matter?

Hello,

I am in the process of starting on my Prequisistes. I already have a BA degree. I was wondering if I should get them done at a 4 year rather than community college. I would prefer to go to community for one its cheaper etc. Do admissions committee way them differently. WHich would look better. just want to know so I can decided where to take my classes.

If it's for pre-reqs, it doesn't matter enough to spend the money at a university. I'm taking my pre-reqs at a comm. college for entrance into a BSN degree program. There's no way I'd spend all that money for basic stuff. Sure, it'll look better, but so does Baylor vs. a public university, or Harvard vs. Baylor, so it's all about your personal choice. I don't think it'll make too much of an impact if you take your pre-reqs at a community college. I had a friend who did hers at one, and got into Texas Women's BSN program, and they only take like less than 50 people or something a year.

Most schools don't indicate that there would be a difference in how the record is viewed. That is probably why the majority of people take courses at the cc in order to save money. But if you are vying for a spot at a very competitive, prestigious program, then you might want to consider improving your chances by getting the prereqs at the university level. JMO

If it helps, I completed all but one of my prereqs at CCs and was just accepted to Johns Hopkins (ranked #4 in the country) and declined an interview at Yale (#7 and an Ivy). So from personal experience I don't think it makes any difference to them.

Plus, once you are accepted to a program you will need all that money that you saved by going to the CC! :twocents:
