pediatric APN in TX

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I'm in a BSN program in Arkansas and have fallen in love with the PICU. I have plans to move to Texas because of the outstanding hospitals and because the RN wage to cost of living ratio is much better than it is in Arkansas. In other words, I can have a higher standard of living. I fully plan on getting my APN.

APN's in Little Rock start at about 76K across the board. I am wondering what the starting salaries for Pediatric APN's are, in both the acute care and clinic setting. I am really interested in the Dallas area. Also, how hard will it be for an out-of-state new grand RN to get a job in Dallas, and specifically in a PICU? Does Parkland have a PICU? I know new grads there start out at over 25. In the hospitals in Little Rock, it's 18-19 for a newly minted RN.:crying2:

Specializes in PICU.

Hey srleslie. Did you ever get your questions answered? I want to know about APNs finding PICU positions as well! It seems like there aren't that many positions available since there are so few PICUs around!

Nope I never got the answered...

I worked 9 yrs in the PICU in Texas. Just pm me for more info.

Average starting salaries for NPs (family, pedi) are about $84,000-95,000.00 depending on the type of office. Larger busier groups will of course pay more than smaller independent practices. If you are still in the process of moving to the metro area, I would highly suggest you look for housing in the midcities area (i.e. Bedford, Arlington, etc.) so you will be more centrally located when it comes time to being assigned and finding clinical sites.

I just graduated from the FNP program at one of the local universities and can answer any questions...just let me know.
