Is it difficult for new grads to find jobs in Texas?

Most of the major cities (Houston, Dallas, Austin, etc.) are glutted with too many new grads. It's reached the point where several hundred new nurses are applying for each job opening.

What are some hospitals that offer New Grad Residencies?

Most of the major hospitals offer new grad residencies, but the spots are limited. Some of the more prestigious hospitals, especially the ones in the Texas Medical Center, prefer to hire BSNs who graduated from schools in the Houston area.

What are some good hospitals to work for?

Beggars cannot be choosers in this challenging type of job market. I would apply to all of them and see where that may lead.

Does Dallas or Houston pay better? considering cost of living...

Houston's starting pay rates are slightly higher, and the cost of living is slightly lower.

Please do not relocate unless you have already secured a job in Tx. As Commuter has already stated - larger metro areas (Houston, DFW, Austin, San Antonio, etc.) are deluged with new grads. Most larger facilities are either trying for Magnet &/or compliance with IOM recommendations for 80% BSN, so they are only hiring BSN new grads.

If you are serious about moving to Tx, you will have better luck if you focus on smaller locales & rural areas. I believe that Corpus Christi is still a good prospect for new grads, including formal training programs for specialty areas.
