I am interested to hear about any opinions or experiences with this hospital. I am looking into possibly the ED or the ICU starting as a new grad. Can anyone give me some scoop? Thanks! :D

Let me ask my father. He knows everyone in that part of Texas........

Thanks, I appreciate it! :thankya:

Specializes in ICU.

I did clinicals there about a year ago. I didn't go to the ED or ICU but I can say it's a nice, clean hospital.

HTH a little bit.

My roommate actually works at MCP so I can tell you a thing or two about this hospital. The staffing is horrible. They are always short but if you work the day shift you will be pampered otherwise expect to be way overloaded with patients at night. The nurse manager is rarely there and most of the time is very hard to get in contact with. The nurses do nothing but gossip about each other and they are very stuck up. Plano is a ritzy area and the nurses certainly act like it. They judge you the first time they see you and if they don't like you they will run you off. They have a very high turnover rate and seem to be always hiring. The hospital itself is nice and having been a patient there before the nurses on the med-surg floor seemed to give pretty good care but the ER experience was awful. My roommate works in the ER so I know that my personal horrific experience was not just an isolated occurance but a reflection on the patient care. My advice: stay away.

That's good to know about MCP. My friend is pregnant, and was thinking of having her baby there.

I really hope you're friend chooses her hospital based on factors other than message board bashing.

I delivered there last fall. It was wonderful and I have nothing but great things to say about my experience.

When I met other moms while 'shopping' for daycare, they were quick to tell me how wonderful it was for them. (And no, they didn't know my profession or my place of employment)

I have several friends who work there and they love it - 2 work in L&D, 1 in the ER and 2 in NICU. They all like it - a lot - and wouldn't work anywhere else.

My experience on their M/S floors as an agency nurse was typical of most busy hospitals as an agency nurse - I wouldn't say they were any more or less short staffed than anywhere else, and the most patients I ever had was probably 8 - and not necessarily all of them for an entire shift.

If you dont know where you want to work and you have some experience, a good way to "try out" some different places is to go work for an agency and have them send you to some different places.

But don't take one persons bash on a msg board as the be all end all.

I take everything I read online with a grain of salt. It's just good to know that there are mixed opinions out there. Making an informed decision is a good thing. :)

I agree with you JaxiaKiley! I take what I learn with a grain of salt. I'm going to do what i want to do, but it's interesting to hear the comments of others.

Thanks everyone!

Wow! I just joined tonight and here are people talking about my hospital Ha!

I've worked in the MCP ER for a few years now and I enjoy the work and I love the people I work with. There's a lot of CE and just about everyone is a CEN and has every certification known to man.

I think there are a lot of good hospitals in the area, perhaps you might want to just go walking through the halls of some and see if the employees seem happy/friendly and what kind of feeling the place gives you.

You might want to consider the employee benefits package, including educational reimbursement/adoption benefits/retirement benefits/ profit sharing etc.,

Check out their websites and see what they offer in the way of community services... classes/support groups etc

Usually there is a trickle-down effect. If the management supports the community and encourages and supports the staff, then the staff tend to support each other.

Everywhere you go, you'll be taking yourself and you'll attract whatever you give out. So good luck with the job hunt, try to stay optimistic and happy and I'm sure you'll find enough wonderful people.. wherever you decide to go.
