Looking for assistance to get started as an LPN in Houston

I've looked through the majority of threads and couldn't really find what I'm looking for. I'm 24 and live in Houston. I would really like to get into the medical field, nursing etc. I'm not sure how to go about it. I will start from the bottom and work myself up, but I can't find any good and accredited information on how to start. I was told that within a few weeks/month you can be qualified for LPN or LVN and get your foot in the door and then just work yourself up. Is that really possible? If so, I would love to know how to do it, because I've been searching for months and I've found next to nothing.

I know this is a lot to ask, but can you guys assist me in finding the right direction to start with? I figured people in the industry would know a lot more than I do. I appreciate all the help I can get. I'm in a job profession at the moment that I hate and I'm miserable doing it, and I don't want to keep jumping to different things when it's not somehthing I will ever enjoy.

Go to your local community college and ask about becoming a nurse. Licensed practical/ vocational nurse (LPN/LVN) usually takes a minimum of 1 year of school. Certified nursing aid (CNA) takes about 4-6 weeks and sometimes can be taught on the job. You can work your way up from an aid to nurse later if you want. Registered nurse (RN) takes 2-4 years and is a little bit of a step up from LVN/LPN. Good luck with the adventure!

To get to specific states forums. Look up top in yellow under region. Click on region and then US. It will pull up all the states. Then select Texas if that is the one you are interested in. Good luck! I sent you a reply after posting this sorry!

sorry I am new to this site also but I entered answer to your question under your original post. To get to Texas forum look up top in yellow under region. Click region and then click US and it will pull up all states. Then click on Texas thats it later.

In Texas we are called LVN's. Search the Board of Nurse Examiners at www.BNE.state.tx.us for all the LVN programs in the state. Only use a program off the list. Then you compare the public vs private school options. Take care.
