Lone Star Kingwood 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! :nurse: I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday :D and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.

Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.

I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter! :banghead:

If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat

Hi Everyone!

I will be applying for January 2011 program. Any recommendations for textbooks to help me prepare? What was the first semester like and which textbooks did you begin the program with. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Just want to start getting familiar with the material being covered.

Thanks:)

bgolden7, I also plan on applying for the 2011 program. I would love to hear how everyone is doing this past semester.

Also, any mother's out there who work full-time --I would love to get your feedback about working, being a mom, and FT RN school! I'm a bit overwhelmed thinking about it all!

I know it has been a while since I have been on here. Nursing school pretty much takes all of your time and once you've started, you won't even think to check allnurses. :( To answer everyone's questions, the books that you may want to be looking out for are any NCLEX books because the questions in there are exactly how you're tested during the program. It is not like any other test you've ever taken and I would definately take a look at some to prepare. The Comprehensive Review-RN by Saunders is really good. Many of the nursing II students use this one and find it very helpful. The main thing is to study and know how the instructors are going to test you while having the knowledge that's required as well. Most other tests are pure memorization. Scratch that and focus more on critical thinking. As far as working full time, I've only heard one single person who will be graduating soon that it is possible but extremely tough. I will be starting Nursing II this semester; the first semester was very tough. Honestly, I don't know how anyone with children work full time and do this program full time. I have a child, just one and a husband that works until 10 pm at night who a lot of time has to pick up fast food for dinner b/c I have absolutely no time to cook. The house is a mess which alone stresses me out on top of everything else. I have given my house a good spring cleaning b/c I know I will not have time during the semester.

All I can say is that is a very tough program and if at all possible, I wouldn't work. There really is nothing more I can say to prepare anyone but to get the NCLEX study books. If you do anything do that!!! This will all come together and you will understand more after you've started the program. We will get through it!!! Good Luck to everyone and if you have more questions, I will try and answer as many as I can before the semester starts again.

Thanks, Ashley
