Jobs for new grads around the gulf?

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I'm looking to move to Texas and would love to live near the coast, that is my only must have. Is there any facility or area in particular that is hiring new grad Adns into the maternal/child health field? I've applied to so many jobs (in CA mostly) I feel that's all I spend my time doing. I'm ready to land a position and start my career.

Specializes in Critical Care, Education.

I encourage you to contact CHRISTUS Spohn in Corpus Christi, TX ASAP. They are very new grad friendly. It's right on the Gulf. It's a smaller, Hispanic majority town that is also a favorite location for retirees. Folks who crave major shopping venues can always drive a couple of hour north to San Antonio. In comparison to CA, housing costs are very low, even for locations on "the Island" (Padre). You may even be able to negotiate for some help with relocation expenses in exchange for a formal work commitment - just sayin'.

Best of luck to you. Keep us posted on your progress.

Exactly what I was going to recomend. I know several new ADN grads that have gotten jobs at Spohn (Cardiac care, ER, Med/surg).

Corpus Christi is a really nice area and cost of living is not too bad. Starting pay was $22 or so last I heard (but that was a year or so ago).

Thanks for the reply. I applied at Christus Spohn and the Bay Area hospital. I'm looking for positions in the maternal-child health area. Do you know if they hire new grads into these departments? I also looked into Matagorda because like I said I love Corpus Christi but id live anywhere along the gulf. I applied to Kingwood, Conroe, Pasadena...ect. I already got a rejection status for two of those. :( when I say I spend my days applying I mean it. I'm from out of state and I can't wait to move and settle into my career.

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

If also recommend looking further south on the Gulf. It seems the further south you go, the higher the need for RNs.

Ah! There's also Texas City, Galveston, Lake Jackson & all the towns in that area by Houston.

Freeport, Baytown, Beaumont & Port Arthur.

In the valley there is Brownsville.

Thanks for the info!

Also, the farther south you go, the higher the need/requirement for "bilingual"--meaning Spanish. Several hospitals located in McAllen/Edinburg/Mission, Weslaco, Harlingen, and Brownsville.
