I thought that if you had clinicals at a hospital you had "your foot in the door"

My very last clinical rotation is at the hospital and the unit that I absolutely want. I have meet so many nurses and feel so "at home" here. However, I had an interview recently and I guess it didn't go well. I have not heard from anyone yet. I am just not sure what to do, I really want this. :(

That's generally what I've heard as well, but it isn't a guarantee! I go to a school in a smaller city, but have been applying in big cities where I didn't do clinicals and got a job. There's so many factors, I think. If it hasn't been that long since you interviewed, then don't give up hope! At the very least, walk through your interview with someone else and figure out what you can do differently next time! You got this!

Yeah I haven't found that to be true. If you connect well with a UM or staff, that helps, but that's not a guarantee.

Keep trying. Work on your interviewing skills. If your interview was recently it could be that HR is going through more interviews so don't think you're out of the running just yet.

Nope. I thought the same thing. It took me 2 years to find my first nursing job

You may have your "foot in the door" but you have to prove that you are a strong, capable candidate. It isn't a guaranteed job when you graduate.

Clinicals are like a semester ling job interview. It gives the nurses on the floor a chance to watch you work with the patients and interact with the staff. The staff will more than likely be asked their opinion of you.

But don't give up hope. Just because you haven't heard from them yet doesn't mean you didn't get the job. HR departments tend to work at their own speed[emoji16]

If your foot is stinky you can expect them to close that door
