Houston Med Center RN jobs

U.S.A. Texas

Hi I was curious how much do RNs in Houston med center area make hourly. I've been a nurse for 4 years and was wondering what I can expect to make here. I was wanting to work at Houston Methodist but heard they don't pay as much as the competing hospitals.

There is no way to answer your question without more specific information about your qualifications. Houston nursing salaries are higher than other Tx metro areas, particularly for nurses with specialty expertise. All hospitals in the Texas Medical Center (TMC) offer salaries that are competitive. Ranges are dictated by supply & demand - the more difficult a position is to fill, the greater the salary. The Methodist System offers a very good benefit package - they have no shortage of applicants and are very selective.

The whole supply-and-demand phenomenon accounts for the seemingly low salaries offered at Ben Taub & Memorial-Hermann EDs... both these settings provide a unique environment for nurses who want to be 'in the thick of things' for trauma...It's an outstanding feature on any ED nurse's resume. So there is always a surplus of applicants for these jobs. OTOH, there are many other Houston area facilities that are aggressively recruiting experienced ED nurses - including some recent recruitment bonuses.

My advice? If you want a TMC job, polish up your resume to highlight evidence of your clinical expertise. If you don't have a specialty certification, get one. But of course, you will also need a BSN to cinch the deal.
