Houston ER positions...

U.S.A. Texas

Hello all,

I am new to this forum & seeking any and all advice! I am going to graduate next semester & I would like very much to find an ER position in or around Houston.

Any thoughts, ideas, connections :lol2:

Start looking for Job Fairs in your area. Go to all of them, and go prepared with resumes and even to interview on the spot. Call all of the hospitals you are interested in and inquire about ER positions for new grads. Apply early, apply everywhere, and follow up!

thanks so much for your advice! I will do so. I am planning on getting things together over christmas break and sending out my resumes by january.

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

Good luck to you. I'm going to move this question to the Texas Nurses forum where you might hone in on more people that work in and near Houston.

Good luck!

Thanks so much! I am new to all of this so it will take me some time to get used to everything.

Specializes in trauma ICU,TNCC, NRP, PALS, ACLS.

If you want a real exciting ER experience I would recommend the county (Ben taub) what u see there in a month; other hospitals like Methodist & St. Luke's see in a year

Specializes in NICU Level III.

Hermann also has a very exciting ER.

Specializes in Med-Surg/Telemetry.

All I can say is apply EARLY! I moved to Houston after graduating in May. I started applying for jobs here the end of Feb/beginning of March and had difficulty finding a position...anywhere, much less the specialty areas I was looking for. I doubt there are very many spots for new grads in the ED so get on the ball and get those applications out or you may miss out!

Working at Methodist and really like the hospital. I have met a couple of new grads working in the ED so I know they take them. But others are right, if you want the hard core traumas you'd do better at another hospital. Good luck!

I am just now home for the break and I am planning on sitting down and getting together resumes and sending them out to hospitals here...is there another better way to do this?? & is it just HR that I should be sending these to?

My hopes are to work at a level 1...that being only Memorial and Ben Tab in Houston I believe. But I will really take any ED position that I can get.

Thanks so much again for all of the advice! Happy Holidays everyone!

Well, start with getting the resume and electronic applications done, that's definitely the first step. Go ahead and do that as soon as you can. However, I would also recommend calling and talking to HR, nurse recruiters, etc. At the very least you can find out if the hospital is having a job fair or something like that. I know they do them periodically. Any chance to make yourself more than just a name in a large pool of applicants will work in your favor, especially for a competitive position.
