Fort Worth

U.S.A. Texas

I previously posted asking about the Dallas area and got some response. However, I am also looking into Fort Worth. I do not know anyone in Fort Worth, so I am clueless about the hospitals there. Can anyone please give me the scoop if they know anything? I am just really worried about agreeing to work somewhere just to find out that it is an awful place. Any help please? If you are not comfortable posting, could you PM me? Thank you!! :D

Harris Methodist is a good hospital and if you work with kids then Cooks Childrens is a great hospital. There are a lot more hospitals in Ft. Worth and in the mid-cities. There are A LOT of hospitals in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I think that there are more than 100 of them. You may want to call the city or check out the website and you could probably get a list of hospitals and you could then check out their websites.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info! I know there are a ton of hospitals in the area. The problem is that all of the recruiters make their facility sound like the greatest place ever. I don't much but I know better than to buy that! I am just trying to get info from people's personal experiences.

Your question is quite general. Start with YOUR preferences.

Do you like a huge teaching facility?

Then consider Osteopathic in Fort Worth...or the big teaching hospitals in Dallas affiliated with the medical school.

Do you like a smaller community hospital setting? Lots of midcities facilities to look at...and some of these are offshoots of the Baylor or Harris systems.

Do you dislike the $$ mindset of the giant corporate chains? Then you may wish to look at this...HCA owns quite a few hospitals here and these may not be your choices.

A nice way to check out an area is to take a short term travel assignment there first, IMHO. Perdiem work and contract work is very popular in this area...we have lots of both at my facility.

Once you iron out a few of the above basics, then move to what kind of management/work environment you thrive in...and make sure you address this in the interview so you can get a feel for the place. Clicking with the boss is a biggy for me when I consider a new job, but coworkers are a bigger issue for some nurses. Know thyself and act accordingly.

Good luck and feel free to PM me.. if I can give you more details I will. :)

Specializes in ER, ICU, L&D, OR.

I like the dollar mindset of HCA, as long as they keep putting it in my pocket anyway. Ive been with HCA for 16 yrs now

As I said..Harris Or childrens would be a good place to work here in fort worth...Now that Ive helped...hopefully....maybe you can help me...exactly what is the difference in just a normal assoc degree in nursing and a bsn/ except the college hours are there any special field that one can work and the other can't or maybe a difference in pay?:imbar

I'm moving to Ft Worth too, early next year. Good question that you asked since I need to know as well. I have almost 3 years experience and am hoping to land a good job, just dont know which hospitals are good as well. I specialize in L&D and PACU most recently. Its hard making a decision on where to work when you have never been to the city, let alone the state. Kind of scary.
