Brookhaven College Spring 2015 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everybody! It's a little early, but I thought I'd start a thread for the Brookhaven Spring 2015 start date. How's everybody doing? :)

How's everyone doing with the immunizations and CPR? I'm doing the TwinRix series and have one shot left, does anyone know where it's available? It seems like it's on back order in most places right now.

I'm getting my twinrix through passport health services. It's $185 per shot though. ..

Did you try the health services office at brookhaven? It's located in the S building

@abenton111 any tips on other places off campus to buy books and other things we will need at a lower cost?

I got my books online from amazon.... There are digital copies of the books, but I wouldn't bother with that, 90% of the time the professors won't allow computers in the classroom. The scrub tops you can get at either brookhaven or majors bookstore. The bottoms I get from anywhere I find the lowest price...there is a scrub store in the Allen outlet mall, and I am sure there are others. I didn't like the way the bottoms at brookhaven fit me... I would suggest at least one pair of "cargo" scrub bottoms for clinical that way you have enough pockets. Compression socks will be your best friend and invest in a good pair of white shoes (mine are new balance and the ugliest shoes I've ever seen but they don't hurt my feet at the end of a long clinical day). Long sleeve white shirts (you can get a pretty awesome deal on these during Black Friday) and you will either want them because the hospital is freezing or need them because of tattoos on your arm (those must be covered)! :)

I almost forgot... For stethoscope you don't have to have a littman! Mine is a brand called MDF (on amazon). The tubing is nice and thick so you can hear really well. For a pen light (little pocket flashlight) get one that you can change the battery on, (more expensive at first) but you will accidentally turn it on without knowing and the others die and you have to throw them away... You will also need bandage scissors and a clipboard for the hospital. Most of us have a clipboard from amazon that folds in half (hippa compliant) and fits in our pockets. I will try to find you the link so you can see.

Make sure you get the "nursing edition" if you get this, comes in a bunch of colors!

Thank you for the information! Are ipads or any type of tablet allowed?

One more question! Thank you for all your information. I'm sure a lot of us appreciate it, I know I do! When it comes to professors, are there more than one that teaches a particular class that we should choose? Or are there no choices and were pretty much stuck?

No iPads or tablets either... :(. As far as your schedule goes you get to pick NOTHING, LOL. It stinks a lot because you might have clinical on a Saturday or something... I had three clinicals this semester, one was a Thursday I just finished Sundays and now I'm on Saturdays.... Yuck!! It is the way it is, which is why if you have a job prepare your employer for what's coming. You can't switch with someone else either, it is essentially set in stone. :/. Sorry for that disappointing news.
