Baylor BSN 2014 Spring Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I was just wondering if there is anyone else applying for the 2014 spring program. It's my first time applying to a nursing school so I'm excited! My HESI is overall average 86% (not that great) and overall gpa 3.7, also I'd be considered a transfer student. Hope to hear from ya'll!

The only thing they told me was that with a good hesi score they are willing to forgive a lower gpa. I feel good about my score and my science gpa but my overall gpa is not great.

Has anyone applied anywhere else? This is my first application so far.

I can't apply anywhere else until January but I am planning on applying to TWU. I know that one is really competitive, they have like 800 or 900 applicants they say. My science GPA is a 4.0 and my HESI wasn't that bad so we will see. I went to both information sessions and I can honestly say I prefer Baylor. TWU did have an awesome facility but there was something about Baylor that just felt right. Although, the tuition doesn't feel right but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

What about you? Schools? Where will you be transferring from?

I am Crystal by the way!

Hi Crystal, nice to meet you :)

I agree with you about Baylor, I have visited a lot of schools and I was really attracted to Baylor for some reason. I'm also applying to Texas A&M and Texas State (I live in Austin), and a few schools in California. I'm also planning to apply in january for the fastbacc program at Baylor.

I haven't gone to any information sessions, but wonder what gpa they look at? Because when the advisor did her evaluation she just did my overall prereq gpa (including science classes) and told me to make at least an 80 in english composite and math on the hesi. I did ask what exactly it is they look at and didn't want to tell me. It's hard not to think about it your right lol. Once I take the TEAS this saturday I'd finish applying for TWU and UTT. I highly doubt I'd get accepted to TWU though, there program is way too competitive, but trying doesn't hurt :) I do wonder what they consider a low gpa though? Anybody know?

They were pretty blunt at the information session (TWU)...she was like if you have a 3.0 and a 70 on the TEAS you might as well forget it. I was actually shocked when she said it. They go off a points system and only look at certain classes to figure out your GPA. She said they enter your test scores, GPA, and any "bumps" you may have and a list is generated. They accept 1-whatever # and continue down the list till they fill their spots. The "bumps" are like a .04(not sure about the number) towards you GPA, you get a bump if you are a TWU student and/or if you have an "A" on your first attempt for Stats, A&P I, A&P II, and Micro.

Baylor seemed to be more of a case-by-case. She made it seem like they actually look at your application and don't just enter numbers into a system.

Good Luck on your test this weekend....I need to take mine soon! You are right...trying doesn't hurt. They have said lots of people apply and some have things come up that prevent them from accepting so they have spots that open up. bstillo - were you at dcccd? Who did you take for Micro?

Oh yeah for twu I only have 1 out of 4 "preferences" lol (on average they accept 3 out of 4 preference) I had to retake a&p 1 and 2, got a b in stats, and made an a in micro first attempt. She said that my gpa is competitive but my preferences bring me down and that I'd almost have to make a 95 and up on the teas to be seriously considered. Thats why I know I won't have much of a chance if any. The advisor for twu told me they're strictly grades and numbers.

On the other hand, Baylor did seem to be a little more lenient but didn't make their selection process clear. Im hoping for the best.

Yes, I took my classes at Dcccd most of my sciences at Eastfield and the rest at Richland. Im not sure we can mention names on this site, but it was a female professor (funny down to earth lol)

I guess I should read the rules for posting! :) I'm sure you will do fine on your TEAS, I'll send you some good vibes this weekend! Let me know how it goes. Did you order the study guide through the site?

My options are limited to the DFW area. I also wanted to try and apply for the fastbacc but I still need some of the science classes. I'm not sure if I should attempt to take the HESI again. I didn't really study for it the first time around. I think I got a 94 on the math section and 89 on the Eng portion.

Yeah everything is closely monitored :speechless: But thank you for your positive thinking :) really appreciate that.

For not studying much you did better than me lol! I studied non stop and still at best got a 94 in math and 84 in english composite. Studying for this teas is taking me to another level though it's hard. Don't feel too good about it but its too late to turn back. Anyway, I just want to get it out of the way. Thanks again! Ya'll let me know when yall get the letters! Shouldn't be too long from now hopefully!

I am also taking the TEAS to apply back in my hometown. (SFA) Hoping for a positive outcome on Baylor, but just in case! Good luck! The teas seems a little bit more difficult than the HESI....blah!!! lol

Same here! the teas is my backup, good luck on your test rmeans!
