Austin - Seton Hospital Nurse Residency Programs

U.S.A. Texas

Does anyone have any experiences to share on their Versant GN Internships? I've begun communicating with the nurse recruiter there, but I'm still 8 months out (2 semesters) from graduating, and I hate to bother them since I won't be applying for quite a while.

She sent me a brochure, but it's pretty lacking in content. Looks pretty, though.

I'm particularly interested in PICU or NICU, with ICU or ER as acceptable, less happy alternatives. Do they offer these residencies every year? How long do they last?

I've been considering Houston for a good while, but Austin is such a nice city, and 4 hours closer to my Grandkids in San Antonio, so I'm looking into it.

Any info appreciated, especially from people who have gone through it!

Thanks - I'll dance at your wedding.

Right now I am at a hospital in San Antonio that is doing the Versant program. I am externing in their NICU. They are letting me sit in on their lectures for the NICU. It is an awesome program, so far. It seems like they get to learn a lot and the lectures are for NICU speciality, I believe there is also a Pedi speciality as well. There are other things they do as well through the Versant program. Our hospital has 2 programs a year, December and June. So I am just assuming it is the same at Seton.

Thanks for the info. :)

My wife would love to move to SA, because it's where all her family lives. I'd rather not be quite so close...but it's definitely something to look into.

She did about 24 years at NE Baptist as an ER RN, and would like to return.

I'm enrolled in the program starting next month. It's at the University Medical Center at Brackenridge. It is said to be a big lecture class like apparently over 100 people. You get a mentor for the days when you are on your unit in the hospital. You work one on one. As I said I haven't started yet but everyone I've talked to really liked it. I've heard that most say the lectures are way too easy but you do get paid your nursing salary just to sit there. They are also supposed to be making it a bit less basic. I am wondering if anyone knows what we can wear to class.. is it scrubs or regular clothes? HOpe this helps a lil!

Every little bit of info helps. :)

I'm planning to call the nursing recruiter over the end of this week. We're out of school for a few days, and my wife and I are going to SA to see our grandkids, so I might drop by one of the hospitals in Austin and look around.

I'd surely love to get into their NICU residency, so, although I don't graduate till May, I'm trying to get my face out there as early as I can.

Thanks for adding your info, and keep us updated on how it goes for you. :)

Hey Borta, How did everything work out for you? Did you end up with an interview? Have you been hired? What's happened?

No, I've been a slacker. :(

Ohhh. Well hey, jump back on that horse and get it done...just do it after I apply! ;) LOL!

I really do need to start calling around. Graduation will be upon me before I know it. I was just a victim of being lazy during my Christmas break between semesters. :o
