Vanderbilt Nurse Residency 2014

U.S.A. Tennessee

Yeah, I know... I'm waaaay ahead of time :) But I thought there might be some people planning ahead like me. I'm graduating in December and I thought some others might like to discuss what you are doing to help you get in! I have a 3.7, I'm doing a medical mission to Guatamala in May, attending the NSNA annual convention, and hopefully working at a special needs day camp over the summer. I know I need some volunteer hours, so I'm hoping to fit them in at the end of the summer and during next semester, and praying its enough. Anyone else? [Pediatrics BTW]

I don't know... but there was someone on here who already heard about the pediatric critical care track, and a friend of mine who applied for it hasn't heard yet...

I'm a little late in jumping in here but I do know of somebody that was notified about the pediatric track as well somebody that was notified for the general adult track. I on the other hand applied for the adult critical care and have not heard anything ....kind of makes me believe that those of us have not heard are probably not going to get an interview... It really sucks because I have plenty of experience and a 3.85 GPA and one of those that was chosen has a great GPA and no experience so they seem all over the place and how they're selecting folks this year

No I chose critical care. Maybe the critical care folks are behind and haven't sent out emails yet?? I wonder if anyone who chose critical care has gotten emails yet..,

I applied for the adult critical care track and was selected for an interview. I received the email Thursday.

I originally chose women's health and switched to peds, but I haven't gotten any email yet. Since there are some people who have gotten rejection emails already, I'm guessing it is just taking them several days to send out all the emails and it doesn't necessarily mean we won't get an interview. Or maybe they just missed a few? It seems strange that so many haven't gotten any notice at all.

Hopefully they're doing it by track. I'm trying to to the psych track. Has anyone else here applied for psych?

I thought about that, but I don't think so. There have already been people who have interviews for peds and I haven't gotten an email yet. They must just have a list of names and are sending out as many as they can each day? Or they are making decisions as they go along? If there is only one person sending out emails it will probably take a while to get through their list...?

There is possibly a sliver lining for those not receiving an interview: https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/vanderbilt-medical-center-854310.html The budget seems to be a big issue at the hospital and they appear to be scrambling.

I guess they are working today even though its Saturday. I just got a rejection email... :(

Rejection email received. It's so hard to not want to give up on this job search.

Rejection received, as well. I'm getting really frustrated with my search, too. The market is terrible here for new grads and I have kids and $700 a month in student loans. I need a job. So upsetting.

Yep rejection letter received... I'm going to take it as a blessing, there are other local hospitals and hospitals around the country that pay more than vanderbilt and don't require you to be locked into two-year commitment. Good luck to all of you!

I received an email confirming my interview date and booked my flight immediately thereafter. Can anyone recommend acceptable lodging accommodations, especially if you live in the area? Has anyone else booked their flights/hotel? I'm getting nervous (albeit very excited), this interview seems tough.
