Yeah, I know... I'm waaaay ahead of time :) But I thought there might be some people planning ahead like me. I'm graduating in December and I thought some others might like to discuss what you are doing to help you get in! I have... Read More

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone might be able to share their experience with Vanderbilt's NRP, from the interview itself to the program. If you are in it, what are things you like/dislike, etc.?

I hate to bust in on a thread but no one is replying to the one I posted so I am hoping to get some answers here, please. I can't find any information." I am looking for NP programs that are set up the way that Vanderbilt's pre-speciality program. I have a BS in another discipline and I am working on a masters in public health but I have no nursing degree (LPN, RN, BSN). Also, I do not think I can get funding for another undergraduate degree? The only program that I have found so far is Vanderbilt's, but I have heard Vandy is so expensive and I am not sure my GPA is high enough. I have heard you need close to a 4.0? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have found some list of "direct entry" programs but I have researched them and they are not accurate."

I am in a graduate program and I'm a Vanderbilt employee. Here is Vanderbilt's website that talks about non-nursing degrees to MSN in nursing: Pre-Specialty Entry | Master of Science in Nursing | Vanderbilt University School of Nursing.

I'm a little confused about your question. I don't think an NP is another undergrad program. If you're thinking about a BSN, you can get federal loans for an undergrad after 180 credit hours. A lot of us hit that wall in my second bachelors. You just have to write an essay about your hardship reason. Of course, federal loans aren't going to touch Vandy's price tag, but my friends were also able to get private loans. They needed co-sponsors, though.

There's federal loans for master's too.

I have a question for you: I am currently a Vanderbilt employee myself, but I work on the academic side. Why is it so hard for the ones who already work for the system to get an interview from the medical side? I have been applying for care partner postions with no response. I thought vandy hires internally first?

I have no idea, I wouldn't have guessed that. I'm guessing your job is harder to replace than a care partner? Transfer on the medical side seem to be easy to do. I just transferred myself.
