Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Winter 2017

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Hello! I have seen these in the past and figured this could be a place to talk about applying and the process of this program!

I think it went well! But you know how it is...always second guess every answer. Everyone was great and made me feel comfortable. I can't wait to hear back. Vanderbilt is my number one choice so I hope I get an offer.

Advice for your interview: make sure you're comfortable with behavioral based questions.

Thats awesome you know people that work in the SICU. Do they love it???? Lol

Yeah Vanderbilt is my number one choice too!! It's always been my dream to work there. And I've been looking up a million examples of behavioral questions! And yeah they like it!!

Who's waiting to hear back after interviews?

I hope we hear something before December 1st!

I interviewed on October 6, so I am really hoping to hear something sooner rather than later!

Me too! I only interviewed a few days ago and the waiting is already killing me!

What unit did you interview for?

I interviewed for the MICU!

For those curious about the wait, my whole group heard back on one day, which was 10 days before our "will hear by" date. Your date of December 1st is the last possible day you'll hear, and I know some years people heard anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 days ahead of then. The waiting is definitely the hardest part!!

Roughly how many nurses do they hire to the residency per unit? I've turned down multiple other offers in order to wait to hear back from . Hope it pays off.

Same! I have no idea :( wish I knew how many they interviewed VS how many they're hiring. Which unit did you interview for?

I interviewed with Trauma ICU. What about you?

Surgical ICU.

Love cardiac too ;)

Anybody else interview for Peds ED? The waiting is the worst part!

I believe about 130 people were accepted total across all tracks for my group, and it's my understanding that that's pretty much the norm for Vanderbilt's residency. The general adult medicine and surgery tracks accepted the most of anywhere, but they also have the most units that comprise those tracks. The specialty/ICU tracks for both adults and peds take significantly less, but that's because there's only one unit involved. At the end of the day they told us they typically end up hiring around 10% of the people who initially applied.
