University of Memphis Nursing

U.S.A. Tennessee

I plan to attend the nursing program in Fall '13. I only have six more pre-reqs to complete. I need advice on the program because I'm so scared of what to expect. Should I apply this semester or wait until my pre-reqs are done? I plan to take the TEAS test this semester. I'm also unsure of should I go to Lowenburg or Southwest. The reason is because I really need to start making good money soon since I don't have outside help. Is it possible to work full time while in nursing school? Someone please give me your thoughts! Thanks! :-)

I looked at Union but it was too far for me to drive and more expensive. I'm hoping to go summers and cut it down to two years. I'm also curious why they didn't offer the accelerated program for Fall.

Union has a campus located in Germantown, TN. The tuition is more expensive, but just by about $5,000. I do know that the student/professor ratio is 12:1 and many classes have 2 professors. I chose Union because they offered a program for people who already possess a bachelor's degree in this fall and the classes are small. I think the professors will be able to give each student individual time and they work as mentors. It is something to still look into if you want an accelerated program with small classes. It will be tough, but I am determined!!! Like I said, I love the U of M because that's where I received my 1st bachelor's. There education department rocks!!! I will always be a tiger:) But Union is fits my individual needs as of now! I'd rather go faster in a program with small classes than 2.5 years with large classes. Good Luck to everyone in their aspirations!!!

I'm driving from an hour South so even 20 more minutes would wear me out! Haha. Hope to find some car pool buddies along the way. Good luck at union!

Thanks Stacey! Yes it would be draining!!! Good luck to you too!

I have decided to wait until the fall to apply for next spring. Since you both have been accepted, what are your gpas? I talked to my advisor and was told that most people don't get in with the required gpa of a 2.7.

Can you email me more details about the funding? My email is [email protected]

I graduated from the U of Memphis with a gpa of 3.8. I know gpa is important, but I would make sure that you do well in all your prerequisite courses. I had a B in A&P I and II and an A in nutrition. I took microbiology and got a B+ in lab and a C in lecture (I couldn't understand our professor's accent:( My teas score was average. Make sure you study for it! The science section was what I thought I wouldn't need to study for, but I was wrong. When I purchased the practice book I began studying like crazy!!! I recommend using your A&P notes also to do well on the TEAS science section. Good luck to you!!!

You can look at the memphis.edu for tuition cost (Nursing classes are about $380 per credit hour). Go to fasfa.gov to apply for aid or the stafford loan (or both). I also recommend applying for a private loan just in case! Wells Fargo has a student loan specifically for health related majors.

My GPA is 3.78 and I have all A's and a couple of B's in my pre-req courses. I got a B+ in AP I and an A in AP II. I already have a bachelor's from U of MS. TEAS I made an 82. Hope that helps! And yes, brush up on science for TEAS. It covers a lot of areas!

Congrats to you both!! I am taking micro this summer under Wong! I'm hoping that I don't have a hard time! Im going to look for a TEAS study guide to prepare to take it within the next two months.

Really really study his PPTs and take lots of notes. I recommend getting a study group together and sitting up front so you can hear him well! The class is huge and if you sit in the back you will not hear!!! I think there were about 80 people in the class I took. Maybe it won't be as crowded since you're taking it in the summer. But remember its a lot of information to take in so be prepared to study but I am sure you will do just fine!!!

I got my acceptance letter for fall 2013 a few days ago! So excited! My husband and I will be having a baby in October, so I'll only be taking one class to start off, but still.

So very exciting!
