Roane State Fall 2012

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

I just wanted to start a new tread for those of us that have applied to Roane State and are awaiting letters in May. Everyone please feel free to share your thoughts and questions. Good Luck ALL :D

We should all know in approximately one month, then it will be summer time! Best of luck to everyone who applied :)

"If all criteria are equal, preference will be given to the earlier application date." Just another thing for me to worry about :)

I received confirmation today from someone who spoke with Ms. Robbins. The average GPA that was accepted last year was a 3.8. However, that's just an average, so I'm sure there were people with lower than that. There's still hope for me :) Also, she said that if one has accumulated quite a few total credit hours, that might help your chances too. I'm trying my darndest to stay as positive as I can during this wait. We got this!!

Oh its not very much longer. Keeping my fingers crossed and praying that we all make the cut!!!!

I've checked out the past 2 years threads. In 2010, I think they got their letters on the 27th of April. Last year, I think they got theirs on the 26th. If it's the same this year, it'll be this week!!! I'm so excited, but so nervous and scared at the same time. Good luck to all of us! Maybe we'll all get to meet at orientation :)

Random question- Has anyone's adviser changed? On Raidernet under the student tab, click on Fall 2012. Something happened that may or may not have caused mine to change, but I was hoping it was an early sign of acceptance instead :) I called my old adviser to see why it may have changed, but I can always hope!

I applied to Roane State for Fall 2012, also. It's the only school I applied to. I feel like a have a decent chance at acceptance. My advisor hasn't changed. Now, I'm worried. This whole process is so stressful! :-(

My advisor changes all the time. Under all the student semester tabs for '11 and '12 it says my recents advisor's name, but I've only had this advisor for this semester. Hopefully we will know by the end of the week! I agree the anticipation is getting to me! LOL

My old adviser returned my call this morning. She was very snappy with me, but couldn't explain why my adviser changed. But her snappy tone was weird. It didn't sound as if she was trying to be hateful, but that she didn't want to give me information. Maybe I'm just grasping at straws. I was hoping to wake up to an email from the nursing department, but there's nothing yet. Keep us posted if anyone gets one!!

@future-nurse2014 I too only applied to Roane and I hope that's all it takes!! I'm sure the adviser thing is nothing to worry about. It was just weird- Mine hasn't changed since I began taking classes until now. Try not to stress too much. There's not much longer to wait!

I am so ready to find out if I made it in! I am absolutely about to jump out of my skin with nerves. Good luck to everyone! We should find out soon.

My advisor is still the same also. For a long time there I didnt have an advisor at all...lol

Good luck to all of you! I hope the letters come this week!! Book your calendars for June 12th to go to the mandatory orientation. You will meet some of the class of 2013 who will be running the orientation for you. You will get your pictures taken this day for your badges. There's a lot to do before the fall!! CPR certification, Proof of immunizations (get them from your doctor or at least begin thinking where you received them). Buying books (don't wait, buy them and begin reading, You are about to read more than you ever have!) You can wait to buy scrubs although there will be a vendor there. You don't start clinicals until about the third week of the semester. You will have lab the first couple of weeks but you can wear any kind of scrubs you want there if you currently have some or want to buy some used ones. Just an idea of your schedule: Harriman/Oak Ridge is Monday 9:05 to 12:10 (10a-1:05 M in Knox) Foundations lecture. 1-2:20 MF (8a-9:20 MF Knox) Pharmacology. And on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday you will choose 2 of these. One will be your lab, and one will be your clinical. These are both 8-2. So you only go to school 4 days a week. You will not know where your clinicals are probably until school begins. We will be finishing our second semester next Wednesday. Guys it's a crazy ride. You MUST have a support network. I've watched girls drop out because their husbands didn't realize how much commitment this program takes. I've seen people fail by one point, don't let this happen to you. Your average must be above 75. You only have 3 tests then a final... that's 4 grades for each of the 2 classes. That's not a lot of wiggle room. Do great on the first test..they only get tougher. Study until you can't study anymore..don't wait until the end of the semester and hope you do well enough on the final to pass. TRUST ME, you will be worried about other things at the end of the semester. I myself have 3 little ones under 8. The third child was born in the middle of last semester!! I work full time as does my wife. I have a job where I can study... otherwise I could NOT work! This program's tough!! don't use excuses! Work for your grade. I see students blame everyone but themselves and it shows me what kind of nurses they'll be. I have a hectic life outside of nursing and I know I am responsible for ME. Please keep that attitude! These 2 years are like running through a landmine, you're just never safe and you're constantly on edge, but it's also a ton of fun, and very rewarding. You get what you put in. Put yourself out there, so much content is thrown at you that if you don't grasp it and don't speak up...it's too late because they're throwing more at you. You will all do great if you truly understand that this 2 years takes a sacrifice. Social lives will have to wait. I miss A LOT of time with my family for the greater good. A nurse does what's necessary and puts priority on what's most important. If this program isn't a priority in the next two years for you, you simply won't make it. Know that going in!! I have faith in you. Good luck to you all!
