Well, you won't make anything close to those rates here! There are three major hospital systems here to choose from and many other opportunities.

Wow, I thought that they would pay more than Jacksonville, right now I am working at a level I trauma center in the ICU and their salaries are higher than the other hospitals here in Jacksonville, the other hospitals pay between 18.00-19.00 an hour for new grads. I am interested in the Memphis regional medical center do you have any information on them.

The Med is in serious financial trouble right now. They threaten every few months to shut down because of budget issues. I don't know much about their rate of pay...look through http://www.gomemphis.com for articles on The Med and you will find a ton of information. http://www.the-med.org/

Well that has been an issue with the hospital here in Jacksonville, they threaten to close their doors often, I think it is because they are a city hospital that is government funded, therefore they supply services to anyone with or without insurance, it would kind of be impossible to close them down, then were would the low income patients go.

It actually wouldn't be that hard to shut them down. There are other hospitals available to take over indigent care. Most areas don't have the luxury of a public hospital.

Most large cities have public hospitals, from what I read the Med got the funds that were needed, and if the other hospitals had to take over the services provided by the Med it would take a while and there is no gurantee that they could do it. I lived in Memphis for 26 years and have seen this problem with the Med also, If they shut down it would be very supprising.

Ok, a question. If you have lived here for 26 years, why were you asking for information?? You KNOW what is here, and I was just trying to help you out.

There are PLENTY of large cities that don't have public hospitals. I don't really think the Med is going to close any time soon, but I have heard some employee complaints and if you would look up THE MED on the commerical appeal website you could find more information for yourself.

I haven't lived there since 96 therefore I really don't know what the nursing salaries are, I am aware of the hospitals there, I do have family there still and visits occasionally but have never checked into any of the hospitals, since I wasn't a nurse at the time. I just graduated in May from a school here in Jacksonville and was interested in moving back to Memphis to attend the nurse anesthetist program at UT. I just wanted to know what the job market was like at this time, I know that the Med has changed from when I lived there, look like they did some remodeling.

I have read through the commercial appeal articles on the MED.

Thank you for trying to help.
