New job in Johnson City with MSHA

Hi Everyone,

So, I'm a BSN student graduating in May, and was just offered a position as an RN at the Johnson City Medical Center. I've accepted, but I'm a little nervous because I haven't had to sign any sort of paperwork, and was told that I wouldn't have to until a few weeks before I start. I'm going to be moving from northern Oregon, so I'm feeling a little paranoid that I'm going to get all the way out there, and it will fall through. Anyone have any experience with anything like this for MSHA? Or any experience with MSHA in general?

I had a very short employment there. They hire a lot of new grads probably to keep salaries low. The people there are very nice but the job I got was misrepresented hence the short employment. There are only 2 major health systems in that area meaning you work for one or the other or none. Loved the area. Hope this helps.

The job was not exactly what I was told that it was. Had I known exactly what it was like I would not have accepted. To be fair many hospitals in general misrepresent a position. The only way to avoid this is to ask specific questions and if possible speak to nurses who work there.

I don't mean to be nosey but how did you get a job offer so early before graduation/NCLEX? I'm graduting in may as well but with an associates. I thought it might be slightly early to apply which is why I have only applied for an new grad position that doesn't start until late june. I used to live in east tn and am eager to return, I just hope I can get a nursing job so that I can afford to move back.

I started applying super early because I'm paranoid. :p But anyway, I worked as a Med Aide/CNA in school, did lots of volunteer work, and spent hours on my applications. I was offered two positions actually--neuro and renal. I would definitely recommend applying soon though--don't wait until the last minute. :)

Also, does anyone know if JCMC is union? Or what their uniform requirement is?

My suggestion is to run fast and far! After graduating ETSU with my BSN, I worked almost 3 years with MSHA in a critical care area. They are an evil company (almost like a cult), and if management doesn't like you, they will see to it that you are gone and unable to ever get another job with them (and they own almost everything in Johnson City and the surrounding areas). You would not believe the horror stories I have heard since I left...I'm serious. My advice is to work for Wellmont. I am in no way affiliated with this company, but I have worked for them years ago and was treated fairly by everyone, and they offer a lot of incentives to keep their team members happy. JCMC is not union, and their uniform requirement for RNs is galaxy blue.

Idk the rules for websites, and I apologize if posting websites isn't allowed, but in the event it is, go to Wellmont Health System | Kingsport, Bristol, Johnson City, TN/VA | Ask Nurse Connection, Locate Top Hospitals and Quality Providers, Search Medical Careers then careers then job search. They have many RN openings. God bless!

I have worked for MSHA in the past and would definitely not recommend them to anyone, as an employer or as a healthcare provider.

Hey I am also curious about MSHA. I was looking into 74/7500 and heard it was a med/surg or AMU type of floor. I want to know more about the unit. Has anyone worked there or know more about the unit and what type of patients they see and how the enviornment is?

I work on 7500 and I pick up several shifts on 74. I love jcmc. My floor is a hard, fast paced floor but most med surg floors are. On 7500 we work great as a team. From the most experience to the least we all help one another if we are unclear. ir can be frustrating but rewarding. It is an excellant place to learn! You have 12 weeks of orientation that is done in tiers ads you grow. Until eventually you are taking an entire caseload with a safty net. You are confident when you get on your own.
