Job while in Nursing school help?

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

I desperately want/need a nursing related job over this summer and I need advice! I've applied at MTMC in Murfreesboro, St Thomas, and Baptist as nurse extern and patient care tech. I've applied at as a care partner. I've applied at Stonecrest as a unit secretary and Maury Regional as a student nurse tech. I've also applied at local Kroger Little Clinics and Walgreens Take Care Clinics.

I'm sure I've done 20 job applications and NOT ONE callback. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have completely open daytime availability but I can't seem to find anything.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Most hospitals in nashville are on a hiring freeze -at least that's what I keep hearing. I know has been on a hiring freeze for a few months now. Why don't you work for one of those home-health agencies? They're always hiring.

All that I have seen require you to be a CNA, which I am not. I could challenge the test but it will be awhile before I can.

I hear there is a free CNA class at a tech center in Murfreesboro. I just took a CNA class and I think it was a great precursor as I am going to Nursing school to get my RN in the fall. I am trying to get onto a Nursing Home locally. I hear a lot of them will help you out financially if you are going to school too!

I thought you finished nursing school already? Anyway, I think you can work as a cna as long as you've completed one semester of nursing school.

No I graduate in December!! I haven't heard of the free CNA classes I'll look into that. And a lot of places will hire you as a tech without a CNA license, but a lot won't. I've applied to all that will but every nursing home I've seen so far requires CNA certification :(

NHC of Franklin and Hendersonville offer free CNA courses. It's like 2 weeks m-f.

Well... I don't really need the classes though actually. I need to find out how much it costs to challenge the test.

Getting a job in the healthcare field isn't as easy as getting a minimum wage job. Try showing up to the places you want to work and personally handing in your resume. Or call and ask about meeting them.

I've tried calling. I was told my name would be given to the nurse recruiter but it didn't help. The next time a job opens up my plan is to call the nurse manager, then to call the recruiter... just waiting patiently for another opening :(

Any luck??? I work at St. Thomas and I know my department is hiring PRN PCTs and NE. Or they were a few weeks ago. It's not always ideal because you don't get many hours while the census is down, but lots of departments are looking for PRN help. Maybe you should go into the recruiting office and have a recruiter sit down with you? I'd email them first and set up an appointment. The gal I know if is named Belinda - she's really nice and shoots straight. I hope you can find some work!
